Seeking expert guidance for setting up local GIT repository

Hi People,

I need to setup a local git repository in a very professorial manner considering:

1. Security
2. Performance
3. The best approach (bare/regular) "seriously I had no time for reading long pages"

I am looking forward to some expert comments (and detailed setup instructions) from all the GIT enthusiasts, so that I can get on to the implementation asap.
