Hi All,

My ubuntu booting failed today giving me the following error:

mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting /sys on /root/sys failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting /proc on /root/proc failed: No such file or directory
Target file system doesn't have /sbin/init
No init found. Try Passing init=bootarg
BusyBox v1.13.3(Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell(ash)

<initramfs>

Please tell me how to correct this.

Thanks,

Hey!
Here are some things I found

http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1437015
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1244466.html

Hope they help.
The best way is to google search the exact error message you get.
Cheers,
Mihir

hi,
from the forums i ran the e2fsck thing, and it gave me an error "superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem something something.........."

apparently i ran the command on a wrong partition.

so i ran sudo fdisk -l, and got the following o/p:

Device       Boot  Start     End               System
/dev/sda1               1        1231             unknown
/dev/sda2     *        1231   12936         HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda3               12936 22567         HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda4               22567 24322         Extended
/dev/sda5               22567 24242         Linux
/dev/sda6               24242  24322        Linux/swap

now in the command sudo e2fsck -f -y -v /dev/sdb1, which one of the above should i pass in place of sdb1?
i am a total noob.. sorry for bothering with silly questions.

Thanks,
