The community of Jimmi Bagbo along with Peace Corps Sierra Leone had the celebration in Jimmi Bagbo for the partially FoSL-funded project. Here are some pics from the celebration and a bit of info on the project.
Brandon is the PCV in Jimmi Bagbo. He is a 2nd year education volunteer, looking to extend here or transfer to another post. First few photos are of other PCVs attending the ceremony and the ceremony itself.
“The Bagbo Prosperity Center is a locally driven initiative designed to equip youth, women, and men with practical, marketable skills that lead to employment and entrepreneurship. Built through a collaborative, community led process, the center reflects local priorities while strengthening the region’s workforce and reducing reliance on externally hired agency. It serves as a sustainable platform for economic opportunity, empowering individuals to build prosperous livelihoods for generations to come.”
Jimmi Bagbo is more than a one-hour drive to the regional center of Bo. Bo hosts nearly all of the training/educational opportunities in southern Sierra Leone. Due to travel costs, it is impossible for majority of Jimmi Bagbo residents to take advantage of Bo-centered educational activities.
The Bagbo Prosperity Center now offers local training in baking, weaving, tailoring, etc and will serve as a economic boon to Bagbo Kingdom.
PCVs have served there since the 1960s. In November, Ellis Wohlner RPCV ’66 plans to visit his old site in Jimmi. We will try to create a video and story around this reunion.
