Hi FoSL Members!
The FoSL Board approved another project this month in Malone Village, Tonkolili, Sierra Leone. The FoSL grant of $4,000 is for the construction of a cement perimeter fence surrounding the hospital compound. Malone CHP has faced security concerns due to thieves trying to steal hospital property at night. Another problem in the hospital is loose animals (goats, sheep, chickens, dogs) entering inside the premises. Their feces is a potential source of disease and it is essential that we find a way to keep them out. The hospital compound is strategically positioned along a high-traffic road, therefore we will paint murals on the fence to broadcast lifesaving healthcare messages to passers-by. Due to poor positioning, the hospital and nursing quarters are heavily eroded during the rainy season. Currently, hand-dug trenches are needed every year to help reduce the runoff from the road. We plan to build a gutter system along the perimeter fence to permanently halt the erosion of the hospital, greatly reducing the cost and frequency of future repairs. Malone CHP serves a population of 7,015 rural villagers.
Pictures from Malone CHP are available on our website www.fosalone.org under Projects -> Projects Funded.
We wish them the best and we are excited to see their success! And, as always, thank you for all of your donations which make projects like these throughout Sierra Leone even possible!
Take care,
The FoSL Board
