Dear NPCA Advocacy Leaders,
A bi-partisan Peace Corps funding letter that your Representative has the opportunity to sign, is now circulating in the House of Representatives.
The letter (attached) by RPCV Representative John Garamendi (D-California) and Representative Amata Coleman Radewagen (R-American Samoa) requests $479 million for the Peace Corps for the next fiscal year (FY 2027) which begins October 1st. This is the same request as last year, when 126 members of the House of Representatives signed on. You can visit our NPCA
State Resources/Congressional profiles to see if your House Rep has a history of signing this annual letter. (NOTE: A similar letter in the Senate should start circulating in the coming weeks). Peace Corps funding currently is $410 million, $20 million below the funding level of the previous year.
We only have one week to secure signatures on this letter! The letter is expected to close at 6:00 PM (Eastern) next Wednesday, March 11th.
PLEASE BEGIN TAKING ACTION NOW. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3:
- Visit our Action Center today for a special "Peace Corps Week" automated email writing action that includes a request to sign the Garamendi-Radewagen letter. If you prefer to call your member of the House of Representatives, identify yourself as a constituent and urge them to "Sign the Peace Corps funding letter that is now circulating in the House of Representatives." Remind the office that "signatures are being collected by the office of Congressman John Garamendi."
- Send a Peace Corps Week message to your social media network, and share the link to our Action Center.
- Visit, bookmark, and revisit this link for regular updates, to see if your member has signed this year's letter.
Finally, tomorrow, on Friday afternoon, NPCA will be on Capitol Hill with approximately 25 members of the local Peace Corps community, to close out Peace Corps Week with a "literature drop" to every House and Senate office. These visits will include requests to sign the Garamendi-Radewagen letter (and also support Peace Corps Volunteers Congressional Gold Medal legislation).
Your emails and phone calls to Congress in the next 24 hours will be especially helpful, and serve as a back up to our advocates as they visit each office.
Thank YOU for everything you do!
