Friends of Sierra Leone,
My wife and I were PCVs in Salone from 1986-88 and plan to visit Sierra Leone from November 17 - November 30 (2 weeks). We have not been back since our Peace Corps days and we are excited to return! Our 3 adult kids plan to visit from November 22 - November 30. My wife and I will be arriving via Conakry and our kids will be flying form the States.
We have already made some connections with Cindy Nofzinger and Lucy Sumner and they have been extremely helpful, but any suggestions from others as to where to stay would be helpful. Specifically, we are looking for a decent hotel (clean with AC) in Freetown, preferably on/near the beaches, for our family, and a place in/around Tokeh.
Here are some things we are looking to do with all 5 of us, so any assistance would be great.
- Visit and stay in Freetown for 2 nights - hotel suggestions?
- Visit and stay one night at Tacaguma
- Visit and stay in/around Tokeh - hotel/guest house suggestions?
- Visit and stay one night in Shenge (the village we lived in as PCVs) - Does anyone know of people who could transport us via boat to/from Shenge?
How readily can we use credit cards in Freetown?
How long should we expect it to take to get to Kabala with a private vehicle/driver?
Other things we should know such as cell service, money exchange, etc.?
Thanks!!
