Dear Friends of Sierra Leone Members,
We are excited to share important news from Capitol Hill! Bipartisan legislation has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives to honor Peace Corps Volunteers (past and present) with a Congressional Gold Medal.
H.R. 5521, introduced by Reps. Betty McCollum (D-MN) and John Rutherford (R-FL) would recognize the extraordinary service of Volunteers who have dedicated themselves to building peace and friendship around the world, including in Sierra Leone.
As returned Volunteers and friends of the Peace Corps, we know firsthand the impact this service has had in our lives, our local communities, and in Sierra Leone. Now is the time to ensure Congress recognizes that service nationally, and so beautifully aligned with the United States turning 250 soon.
👉 How you can help:
Please email your Representative today and ask them to co-sponsor and support H.R. 5521. The National Peace Corps Association has made it easy through their action center here:

This is an important moment to stand together and lift up the legacy of Peace Corps Volunteers. Your voice matters and let’s make sure Congress hears it.
