One of my client has paid E-challan in wrong TAN Number. What is the remedy available to rectify the challan:-

If the time allowed to bank for necessary correction online has expired you 
can approach ITO ( TDS ) of your jurisdiction with all documents and 
request him to correct the TAN online and accordingly it will corrected on 
the data base directly.

The following fields can be got corrected through the concerned bank 
branch:

2. Major Head Code 
3. Minor Head Code 
4. TAN/PAN

It is provided that the Bank will rectify the error as per request within 
7 days. 
What are the procedure for applying for the correction? 
1. The tax-payer has to submit the request form for correction (in 
duplicate) to 
the concerned bank branch. 
2. The tax-payer has to attach copy of original challan. 
3. In case of correction desired for challans in Form 280, 282, 
283, the copy of 
PAN card is required to be attached. 
4. In case of correction desired for payments made by a tax-payer 
(other than an individual), the original authorization with seal of the 
non-individual taxpayer is required to be attached with the request form. 
5. A separate request form is to be submitted for each challan. 
What if the period for correction with Bank is over? 
After the window period available to banks for challan correction, the 
assessee can make a request for correction to his or her assessing 
officer, who is authorized under the departmental OLTAS application to 
make such correction in challan data in bonafide cases, to enable credit 
of the taxes paid, to the concerned assessee.

if the fault is detected within 7 days of such payment, contact the concerned banker to rectify the mistake. Otherwise contact your TDS assessing officer. For details visit FAQs.

Please meet the Assessing Officer (TDS) who can resolve your problems. He is authorised to incorporate the rectifications required in a challan.

Dear Mr Baheti

Please write a Letter to NSDL first and Submit a copy of The Letter with copy of Challan and an Application Letter to the Relevent ITO (TDS), Although the rectfication will be done by ITO (TDS) only, he will look for the letter given to NSDL. Furthur meet ITO (TDS) personally for the required rectifuication, he have the full power and authorisation to rectify the mistake. you have to justify in front of him regarding the issue.

FIRST ASK THE BANK – THEU=Y MAY RECTIFY IT WITHIN 7 DAYS OF PAYMENT.

IF IT IS NOT POSSIBLE, Write a letter to ITO(TDS) for changing the AY

Bank has no power or system  to rectify. Only income tax department can do it
