It is a long time wish for a bubble help.

At least Centura may can be do the following very easily.

       In the "Centura Help "

SalReportPrint ( hWndFrm, strTemplate, strVariables, strInputs, nCopies, nOptions, nFirstPage, nLastPage, nErr )

But if you get the same from "coding assistant",

SalReportPrint( Window_Handle, String, String, String, Number, Number, Number, Number, Number )

If you say "String, String, Number, Number" in assistant,  again, you need to go HELP to know what are those arguments.  Please change the argument representation in the coding assistant as same as the HELP.

Functionality is one thing.  But you need to make things easy for the programmers.  Once they do coding in VB or any other new editors, they find centura very hard to program.

Programmers go from Centura background to Java, find it very easy to learn Java.  But now our programmers are even refusing to start with Centura.  Please do something.  My product is in Centura and I can not find programmers.

Thanks,

I find it very hard to program in VB after having used CTD, even with the unfriendly coding assistant. I find VB habit of having everything in a text file very hard to work with. I also find VB habit of NOT removing the code associated to visual objects when you delete them and NOT changing the names of functions also a nightmare.

Image if in CTD you change pbOk to pbConfirm and you had to change by hand every singe event related to that object: pbOk_Click, etc.  Or after having deleted, added and renamed objects in a form you have fix the connected code. A total mess!

Honestly, I cannot understand how any programmer can like VB for the IDE. I understand liking it for the easy COM integration, but the IDE really sucks big time!

Gianluca,

That is because, you and I are so much familiar with the functions of Centura.  But please think of the new generation.  We need to change according to the new generation.  Also may be because we both work only in Centura most of the time.

New generation programmers work in many and thus need not have to remember all "Sal" functions and "SAM" messages.  But they only need to know the concepts.

When we think that something is complete, there is no room for improvement.  You need to come down a little bit and act as a new programmer coming just from college.   Try getting feedbacks from new programmers as I do.

Centura needs a good research and development center.  When some new things are added in my package, so much discussion and research is done to make it so user friendly, even when my package is not a great one.

From your mail, what I can understand is, there is nothing more to improve in Centura editor.  It is not true.   Please do not compare the bad feature of VB which I already know.  We need to aims the sky to reach the top of a tree.

Centura needs a lot more vision.  I do not have that capability, but I expect them have that.

Please do not say that unix operating system is more user-friendly than windows.  I worked in unix for 3 years and am a big supporter.  But unix is not a user friendly O/S and that is why there are no new programmers with Unix background.

Thanks,

Actually I work with C++ 50% of the time, CTD another 50% and other stuff the third 50%. :) I didn't mention Unix at all.
Of course there is room for improvement, my thought was that VB IDE sucks many times more than CTD IDE. Delphi and Omins IDE suck as well IMO. The language features are a different topic, you mentioned the coding assistant not the language. My objection was that I canot simply understand anyone, including kids coming out of college, preferring VB for the IDE. Other features yes, IDE no.
