As many of you are aware, there have been outage problems with our
newsgroups lately. Our Centura newsgroup server experienced a hard drive
crash and had to be replaced. Unfortunately, we have lost our archived
postings in the process. However, the good news is that many of these
postings have been archived and remain accessible from other Web sites in
the Centura community, such as the Dataline Forum Browser. For information
on where you can find archived news, as well as addtional community
newsgroups, message boards, and chat facilities, please visit

We had backups, why didn't you?

I'm sure this is not the right place, but it has to do with the lost
newsgroups:
I'm using Outlook Express 5 and all lost news since about 1998-11 are stored
local on my pc.
Soon I will move to a new workstation.
Here's my question: is there any possibility to save these news (export?) or
move the files to the new system and use them with Outlook 2000?

No backup!? Okay, so people make mistakes, but how about spending $1-$2K for
a data recovery company to get the data back? There was a lot of valuable
information contained in the newsgroups that is not available anywhere else.
(forum.sourcecode files)
The newsgroups were having intermittent outages for months leading up to
this. Why wasn't something done earlier to fix this?
While I'm on the subject of support:
- It would be helpful to actually have some CURRENT whitepapers on Centura
products and describing solutions to customer needs, written by experts that
work for Centura.
- It would be nice to have the links in the CTD help file fixed so that they
jump or popup the correct information, like they did in the past with
sqlwindows16.
- When customers with support contracts call in with a problem, a detailed
description of the issue and its resolution should be posted so that everyone
can benefit. Currently only a small number of customer problems and product
defects make it to the web.
Thanks.
I can't find a way to export this data to another format, and I can't
work out the file structure, as this software supports threading of
messages etc.. But I'm sure I've seen something in the past about it,
so I'll do some digging, and if I can make it avaialble I will.

unfortunaltely OE is not able to export news-data. So you have to tweak a
bit.
1. Install OE on the new workstation.
2. Connect to talkto.centurasoft.com and subscribe to the same forums as you
did on your old workstation
3. Close OE
4. Copy the newsgroup files from your old workstation (e.g.
forum.advanced.programming.dbx) into the working directory of the new
installation.
5. When you open OE again, your old forums will be there
You must have to keep in mind, that talkto.centurasoft.com does not have the
old messages any more, so be sure not to connect to the server again.
Otherwise OE will delete your newly imported messages.
In may installation I deleted the server entry in the properties of
talkto.centurasoft.com and created a new one for the recent messages.
I hope this was understandable. Good luck
Wilhelm

Database of problem resolutions is available on the web on the following
link:
http://netdb.centurasoft.com/cgi-bin/ndrun.exe?&book=resolution&page=pgRESOL
UTION (To access this database from the main page, please click on
'Technical Support' and then on 'Questions and Resolutions')
This database is filled by technical support staff. Postings to this
database are based on support calls opened by customers with support
