suggestions for 2021- 75th anniversary of UNICEF

Suggestion 1

Following up  Detlef’s idea, which I like. Lest we accused of discriminating against  the 'younger retirees' (though I was born in 1945) ,  let’s invite everyone to send a recent photo of your choice! 

We could do two pages of collages of the photos received from the 800 members of the network ( or use their file photos)  and feature the collage pages in every weekly update in 2021- unicef’s 75 Th anniversary! This could replace the painter/ photographer slot and ease the pressure on  Doreen and Gianni in their search and follow-up with the reluctant artists.

Suggestion 2

following up Fouad's collection of "stories  from Hanoi " and Detlef' s writings on "musings on the train", maybe ask network members to write about one incident in 300 words with picture (if available) of an UNICEF incident that they recollect most - funny, failure, unexpected success, boomerang (opposite effect) , epiphany moment, ....for the quarterly issues with spill over in weekly update if too many

Suggestion 3

Invite one 'elder' to write about the key developments/ decisions such as CSDR, CRC, Violence against children study. as feature articles for the four  quarterly issues.

We have time to discuss these and other ideas

Dear Sree and others,

just expanding on suggestion 2. I have been wondering why we had photographers, artists and musicians from the xUNICEFers, but not writers, or poets. To start with, a category of 'poems by UNICEFers' would be easy to handle, as the poems are unlikely to be long or just about your own achievements. For 'writers of UNICEF', I would be getting wary of stories on 'how I met the president of tika-toka-land', or 'my first time on the 13th floor'. Therefore, for 'short stories', we would need to set some conditions such as not talking about other UNICEF persons by name, etc.

On suggestion one, I am not sure we ever get 800 submissions, but I think it is generally a good idea. I think 20 pics (not necessarily portraits, also 'situational images' if someone prefers) would fit on one collage-page. I like the idea, because, ultimately, most people would like to pictured once.... and it will increase traffic to the site.

Another idea, if people may feel reluctant to show a pic of themselves @ 75. How about a pic taken during their last posting (not necessarily an 'official pic in the office'). That would 'level the field', and everyone looks about the same age.
