Yes he has made mistakes, but I see an evolving Biden, open to change, caring, empathy willing to admit to his mistakes. Has the confidence and audacity as harris said to elect a woman of color who confronted him in the primary.  He is not self absorbed, so hopefully he will govern well mindful of the electorate that brought him to power, blacks, youth , liberals and moderates . The challenge will be to straddle these competing needs.  Go America 🇺🇸

I believe that the Americans, and the entire international community, will understand now why, in Africa, we celebrate the overthrow of corrupt and tyrannical heads of state with scenes of joy and jubilation ...

I agree with much of the article.  Unfortunately, one of the lessons that is being drawn from the close election results is that the American public isn’t ready to embrace the new progressive ideas.  Most Americans - and especially the older generations - continue to believe that the current free market system is their best hope for a better future - in spite of the scandalous levels of inequality  And so the problem isn’t Biden, as much as the fact that there continue to be strong forces in the US that are in favor of what he stands for.  Too many haven’t yet realized that they’re voting for a form of capitalism that is based on exploiting people as well as the planet.  We still believe in too many myths…..”the self-made man,” “ a free market is inherent to democracy,” etc.

One clarification - I don’t agree with the opening sentences about Biden being a crook, and he has the enormous quality of at least believing in our democratic system, which Trumps does not.  He will also genuinely try to pull the country together, because he is instead a decent man who, as a number of people have pointed out, has evolved - again, unlike Trump.  My main point is the disappointment felt at the fact that there was not a ‘blue wave,’ because there is still too little challenge to the basic system itself.

Biden’s victory should have been a landslide, but it wasn’t. Perhaps this is not a moment for celebration. After four years of lies and incompetence, 70m Americans still voted from Trump, and they are still around. So are the millions of guns, including those purchased in the run-up to the election. Police officers who disregard the human rights of minorities are still cruising around in their patrol cars. The inequality that is baked into the education and health system is still there. Biden will neither have the courage nor the power to address these systemic faults. Sorry to spoil the party, yet good luck America...
