Hi Joel,

Here are some unfinished masts I'm working on:

1. The basic mast I've created, which is very very basic and simple.
The fabric is absolutely a placeholder.  The details like the top of the mast, the wood colour, the ends of the mainyard (horizontal wooden post..), the sails, and the ropes will vary from ship to ship as you'll see below.
I tried to push it away from the lunar design, but you can only change it so much and still have it be a pixel-art-ship-mast.

2. The slaver has the basic mast with details just barely roughed into place.  Far from finished!

3. And the Trireme....I really like this ship so the design just kind of came together.
I have some colour balancing to do, and detail work, but I want to get your opinion before I go much further.
The fabric furling isn't very realistic, I was aiming for pretty/ornate to go with the rest of the ship.
I still have rope-work to do as well.
I don't really know what the red piece on the base of the mast is...it just needed detail.

Should the rope leading to the deck really be red as well? It seems off, but I don't know enough about ships to say whether it's accurate or not.

I agree. They are also really smooth.

Her environment accents lean towards blending and understating outlines.
I think I'm most troubled by the highlight on the mast. It gets too hot in the center, making it super round and smooth.

Hi Joel,

Thanks for contacting!  I had been waiting to hear from you about the rough masts e-mail, and wasn't working on the masts or the Sambuk for a short while.  I got caught up with some layout/colour (artist's block) issues on the Sambuk but have them figured out and am actually working on it right now.   I'll send you an update before the end of the day, it's looking pretty good!

If you are a fan of the basic mast I've designed, and the trireme mast so far I'll get back to them!

- Jessie
