I had a similar problem, the same error message, but I had no windows installation disc. I couldn't boot Ubuntu either. I thought everything was lost. So then I used Ubuntu live USB which I had and chose to "Try Ubuntu before installing" and performed boot repair and finally I could get Ubuntu working. (finally relieved that something was working). Then I added windows option to the Ubuntu grub menu. I got windows 8 loader option in the grub while booting but same error when I select it. I googled a lot but found no solution and I gave up. But finally after a few days I realized something and tried it. It worked right.
I could access windows files from the drive in Ubuntu. Then I searched for the location where easybcd was installed and and found backups of the bcd file. (gave me little hope that something could be possibly done)
You can use EasyBCD, but keep in mind that this will slow down the booting of the system, so after booting to Ubuntu, change mbr in such a way that it points to the Ubuntu GRUB which will search and list all the operating systems installed in the system, which is far better than windows boot menu, also remove Ubuntu option from Windows boot menu.
Today i am going to share another interesting topic useful for all DUAL BOOT OS users.Since i am using a dual boot operating system with windows 7 and KUBUNTU 16.01 I faced a similar situation a few days ago to how to solve my booting problem.
The laptop i was using was with a default BOS (debian operating system) and windows 7 but BOS was some what frustrating as i was not using it and also it was holding 50gb of hard disk space,So i decided to comptlely delete the BOS operating system from my pc but the problem was with MBR(Master boot record ) of windows as it was dependent on GRUB.After deleting the BOS windows will not work due to boot manager problem. The solution is EASYBCD.
EasyBCD is a bootloader modification tool for Windows Vista.and it can also be used for writing the damaged MBR of windows and setting the booting order and so many uses with EASYBCD but today i will tell about only MBR PROBLEM and how to overcome it.
After deleting the what ever LINUX system installed on your PC the bootmanager of windows will be corrupted due to MISSING MBR problem.using EASYBCD a simple few step solution can be obtained so lets look in to it. follow the below instruction as it is after installing EASYBCD and deleting the LINUX system.
After this you will get a success message after which you can restart your system and use the windows as it is .you can use EASYBCD for various other purposes as well kindly have a look at it cheers guys.Thank you for reading
The reason I believe this is a topic worth posting is because of what i did to my windows bootloader with easybcd. Perhaps because I set for the bootloader to skip, and go to the default of linux, that every time I open windows, I get sent back to linux. An infinite cycle.

I haven't used the software in a while, but there should be a Linux option in the add entry tab. The software is supposed to be UEFI ready. I had used easybcd for years, but only on legacy bios machines.
To boot the Windows 10 computer.
First, make sure that the bootable disk is working.
Second, enter the BIOS on the Windows 10 computer, and then change the boot oder of the Windows 10 computer. The bootable disk must be the first boot oder.
Or make a bootable disk to boot Windows computer,it can be an USB or DVD/CD.

Hey! You just need to re install windows bootmgr. It will delete grub during the process. To do that you will need a windows 7 installation usb or cd. Once you have an installation usb or cd ready follow following steps:
Good morning all I'm looking for some advice, i have an Acer revo RL85 which has a 2tb hard drive which i have partitioned into 2x 1tb and installed windows 10 in "legacy" mode to one partition.
I've also installed a 250gb hard drive which i have installed libreelec to while the hard drive was in my laptop.
I'm trying to use easybcd to set up a boot selection screen but i keep getting it wrong and after the 4th time of breaking windows I figured I'd ask in here if anyone has successfully set this combination up?
What settings have you used in easybcd when entering libreelec?
Easybcd doesn't seem to see libreelec. Everything that's I've read relates to the 2 OS's being on the same hard drive
Hi klojum yes the revo does have hot key to boot menu but ideally was looking for a pop up selection window.
Hi vitorp07 yeah i read that and in the end went along those lines
I ended up installing both OS's to the 250gb HDD and left the 2tb as 2x 1tb storage drives. Once done easybcd did work and i now have it setup nicely.
download easybcd -easybcd.html and open easybcd and choose add new entry at operating system section choose linux and type grub2 and the name of grub of linux and openwrt and leave drive to automatically locate and load
