This is a long shot. I am looking for a hotfix that allows Windows Server 2003 to connect to websites using SHA256 (SHA2) SSL. I found several articles that reference it, but they all point to this page which gets a 404 error: KB968730

At this point I'm not quite sure what I need to do. The kb968730 article indicates that crypt32.dll is the only file that is updated by the hotfix which makes me think, since I have a newer version already, shouldn't I already have this functionality? But, it would seem as though I don't, unless I am mistaken about the root cause of the issue.

The previously installed version was 5.131.3790.5014 version and it did not fix the issue. According to this post ( -dll/), there are two variants of the 5014 version: one from Windows Update (KB2661254, does not work) and another as a QFE (KB968730).

We've had Microsoft do an extensive search for a solution to this problem, but they could only conclude that these certificates could ONLY be supported by the OS to be used as client certificates. If you install the hotfixes, the certificate can indeed be installed and used in (e.g.) IE. The handshake with a server accepting the specific certificate will work fine. Using the certificate for server purposes (like iis or whatever) will NOT work.

WinXP X64 is based on the Server 2003 kernel (NT 5.2), so you need the Server 2003 version of the hotfix if you are running XP x64.
If you need any version of the KB968730 hotfix, look on Thehotfixshare site.

I didn't appear to have KB968730 installed on my machine, so I downloaded it and installed it.
It appeared to install OK, and its registry entries are now there, but a system file check didn't reveal any changed files.

Error #3: Usually these certificates should exist on properly configured and up to date system, thus some systems deployed from old installation sources would not contain all required updates. This issue could also appear on systems that are not connected to the internet and where not all the Microsoft Windows updates are installed by IT administrator. Possibly related to an issue with Windows 2003/XP: -us/kb/968730

We are running 8.0 with the latest hotfixes in a mixed windows 7/10 environment. When I run compliance reports on certain machines they always show missing patches. I know the patches are installing because we have run scans against machines and they are installed. The assessment scan date always show they same date for these machines 5/9/17. I have run an assessment scan on these machine both as a task and connecting to the box and running it from the agent. The scan always completes successfully with no errors in the logs. The agent on the machine looks fine in every way including installing the latest patches. It's like the record in the database can't be update with the current scan data. I am trying to find a fix for this with out having to re-install the agents.
