Bittermelon is best known for being effective in treating and preventing diabetes. Accordingly to studies, bitter melon helps to enable the uptake of glucose, and hence, indirectly helps in reducing the level of glucose from the blood. Bitter melon also helps in improving insulin production and glucose tolerance of the body, and hence, it can be included in a diabetic diet.

One of my favorite bitter melon dishes is called braised stuffed bitter melon. The use of pork (moderate amount), Chinese black bean, and a savory sauce is a proven recipe to contrast the bitterness of the melon.

hello Aziza, thank you for sharing your recipe with me. A curry based sauce sounds FANTASTIC! I would love to replicate your version! I always try to find new ways to make bitter melon and your recipe sounds right up my alley. Please let me know how you like the Chinese version! Thanks.

Thank you so very much for this! This looks great. Have to try it sometime. I love bitter melon. There is a cold dish that is very nice using very thinly sliced bitter melon with black beans. Refreshing in the extreme!

Hi Ray,

Thanks for your visit. Regarding your question on baking cookies, the time they need all depend on the size of the cookies and your reference on the softness of the cookies. My usual approach is to bake the cookies 5 minutes shorter than the suggested time. This way, you get to check on them before you over-bake.

On a smaller scale, deer mice, ground squirrels, chipmunks, and kangaroo rats eat its seeds. Birds take shelter within or below the shrub that grows from two to six feet tall. Native bees find the scent as irresistible as I do, and are important pollinators. Spiders spin webs threading flower to flower, leaf to leaf, and twig to twig.

On this Memorial Day weekend of remembrance, I celebrate the wild scents, the vivid memories of the people and places that have shaped us and our planet, and this glorious, miraculous spring that beckons our senses to awaken to the dance.

I love this!! Experiencing the world with all of our senses is a gift that we are all blessed with, but not something we all do. Thanks for reminding us to take a minute to breathe and sense our world, Marina!

While trying to prepare a poem on bitter brush, I happened upon your post. A friend is editing a field guide on NW plants and animals. I thought, hell, this is so much better, my poem would only be poaching. So, while I do not know if the editor will listen, I sent along the url for your piece. Thought it terrific. kjm

Thank you fellow appreciator of bitterbrush. I see you are a prolific author and I should know your works! Thank you for drawing my attention to your new book. And congratulations. You might also like this blog that widens the sphere to other brush: -brush-with-beauty/

AMAZING flavor, rich, no bitter after taste. Truly great coffee down to the last drop. Used to buy Coffee shop coffee from the biggest coffee shop known to mankind. Will NEVER go there again, when the cup I make at home from your coffee is soooo Much better. Have tried every brand available at the store, on a search to replace that name brand coffee shop coffee. Yours is THE BEST. Thank you for a great product, and Best wishes for your continued success. My morning coffee would be at a loss without you!

Dear NEW ENGLAND COFFEE, You truly know how to produce an excellent tasting cup of coffee! I was vacationing in Vermont and the hotel coffee brand was NEW ENGLAND COFFEE. I looked your company up immediately on line because I was so impressed with the real rich coffee taste. At home I daily grind my coffee beans and make excellent coffee, but never in a hotel have I tasted coffee like I brew at home. I am ordering a pound of your NEW ENGLAND COFFEE beans today. Thank you for taking pride in your product as the taste tells you that you have maintained an excellent company.

Many blessings and continued success.

OMG what is wrong with your coffee? It tastes like watered down not quite right no matter what I do, even double the usual amount and I had to buy a real cup of coffee on my way to work. Disappointed and I will never waste my money on this again. I want my money and my wasted time BACK. I doubt this review will actually see the light of day because all you actually post are the ones from people with no taste buds.

Fabulous, smooth taste! We mix it 80/20 with the Hazelnut Creme decaf, sweeten and add cream and it is amazing. It has been many times our dessert. I have tried alot of coffees but New England Coffee is the best. Our friends have discovered it too!

I was in the supermarket this weekend on my quest to find the perfect K-Cup coffee. Most were too weak and watery. This K-Cup tasted like fresh brewed coffee. AMAZING. I tired about 10 different brands this week. #1

I spent well over 6 months trying different coffees for my morning rituals. The conclusion (and my new favorite) is New England Coffee Breakfast Blend. The flavor is ideal and consistent, very smooth and totally pleasing in the morning. I highly recommend Breakfast Blend as a daily starter.

I was in the store, and saw a bing that had 2 for 1 coffee. I saw different brands and then I saw New England coffee, tried and have now fallen in love with it. It tastes great. The best coffee I have ever tasted.

Breakfast Blend-WOW!!!! Have been buying this coffee for quite a few years. Found it by accident in a Burger King near Acadia in Maine more than 10 years ago. The best cup of coffee I have ever had. There is no other coffee in our house. Thanks so much for the best part of my day-New England Breakfast Blend in the morning! Would give it 10 stars if I could!

I love this coffee. It is my all time favorite! I love the Breakfast Blend and Donut Shop as I like light-medium roast coffee. This coffee is so smooth and delicious. My daughter loves the Hazelnut Cream. No matter what you get you will not be disappointed. Once you try it you will be hooked!!

First time I have had this brand of coffee. I bought it last night at Publix Market in Cleveland, Tennessee. It is just one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had. I will be a regular customer of New England Coffee.

Wild asparagus are more bitter (and thinner) than the farmed ones, but I love any fresh asparagus in this spring frittata. Other vegetables in season like mushrooms, broccoli rabe, peppers, zucchini and others can be substituted as well. When I was a child this sandwich was often taken out to the fields during spring planting for merenda or snack, (although the bread does get a bit soggy and it is best eaten immediately.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat, and add the onion, asparagus and 1/4 cup water. Season with 1/4 teaspoon of the salt, then cover and let simmer until the water has boiled away and the asparagus is tender, about 10 minutes.

Beat the eggs with the remaining salt. Pour the eggs into the skillet over the vegetables, cook and stir until just beginning to set but still wet, about 1 minute. Sprinkle with the grated provola, then cover and cook until the cheese melts, about 1 minute more. Uncover, stir to mix the cheese into the omelette, and serve on the toasted bread or rolls.

But something as overtly Indian, to American eyes, as The Jungle Book? To attach myself to the very property I had avoided throughout my whole childhood? Phew. No wonder my stomach lurched when Vinita suggested it.

When young lips have drunk deep of the bitter waters of hate, suspicion, and despair, all the love in the world will not wholly take away that knowledge. It may only turn darkened eyes for a while to the light, and teach faith where no faith was.

Great review - the only place I disagree is that I think Cheaters do it because they can is a truth, they may all have different reasons for cheating but somehow in someway they convince themselves that they can, either because they deserve it or it doesn't really matter or they think they won't get caught etc... Somehow they convince themselves that they can cheat and it is important for the wayward spouse to remember that it is this 'convincing' that causes them to cheat not something the betrayed spouse ever did.

Well, yes, "they cheat because they want." If not, it would be something forced (like rape). But if we explain every bad choice, including our own, with that explanation we will never come to a good understanding of infidelity. There are many cheaters who really never wanted to have an affair during their marriage but then come to time when they do. How does that desire switch? Once switched, can it ever switch back?

Even if the betrayed spouse decides to leave, being able to come up with a better answer than "just because I wanted to" will be helpful in understanding what changes & boundaries need to be put in place in the future.

The idea that a cheater never really wanted to have an affair, but then temptation arose and they "just did" is perpetuating the victim blaming narrative. Joe Abuser never wanted to hit his wife, but then she didn't fold the laundry right and the temptation was so great that he "just did." Because his dad hit him as a kid. Does it help anything to understand that Joe's dad hit him? No. Joe still made the choice, and his choice was to abuse.

A cheater does cheat because they want to. And because they have a faulty moral compass and little self control. And because they value superficial external validation over the partner who has committed the most vulnerable pieces of their heart and soul to them. And because they are abusive.

When you ask us to parse and seek to "understand" cheaters you are in effect asking to look at the marriage and see where the non-cheating spouse can be blamed. It's an exercise in futility. It's faulting Joe's wife for failing to correctly fold laundry. The cheater will blame their faithful spouse for everything in order to justify the cheating. And the sad thing is, the faithful spouse is usually all too eager to accept the blame in order to feel some control over "fixing" the relationship.

From everything I have seen and felt and lived, relationships cannot be brought back to a healthy place once a partner has cheated. I hope that cheaters can change and have a healthy relationship in the future, but the relationship with their current partner has been destroyed beyond repair.

Cheating is abuse. It is time the therapy community started treating it like abuse.
