EFORT congress summary

Guys,

first of all, it was really nice to finally meet you! Congratulations on the organization of our session, booth, poster, etc...

Some of us really excelled in these tasks, so a particular recognition to those!

I would like to make a sum (of my end) of things.

1st - As Nick stated, we have a new executive board. Attached I send a proposition of the new Board of Directors. Let me know your input. In short time I'll send the proposal of new constitution to you.

2rd - We've had some propositions for financial support: the guy from Insight Orthopaedic offered some kind of exchange (we can advance with a proposition that we feel suitable) and a representative from a small industry also offered to support our educational initiatives.

I remember that UEMS maybe a financial support.

4th - I've talked to Dr. Cassiano and Stephen Cannon to ask for office support. They are available to accommodate us, but if we require a lot, they will need financial support from us. I'll ask (for now) only a fixed address and eventual secretary support in case of mail income there. The website is taken care of, right? Can I advance with this proposal? 

I have a propositions to make: each mail should be forward with Word table that you find attached. This way we can have all our projects organized and updated. 

Let me know your feedback about all things as soon as you can. I need a reply on the 4th topic ASAP.

Hi guys,

I will write our disclamer in a few days, and upon aggrement of us all to its content, I will forward it to Oscar. Then the website will proceed.

Attaching 'tasks' files to each e-mail is and will be a waste of energy! A document that will be edited and viewed by a group of people requires a better strategy than that. Vide might send a file, and I and one of us may respond with our own answers. That  will make two copies which are not the same. A third person that wants to answer will be confused to choose which file to use. Someone will always have to put an extra effort to merge the files, and so on..

Google docs has already solved the problem :) lets use it :)

The document will be online, any of us can view or edit. Simultaneous editing can be made with a chat screen at the right-hand side. 

We can include the 'link' in the end of each e-mail instead of an attachment to remind others to look and comment on relevants parts of the document.

Dear Joao,

As you would remember You, Enis, Me and Caglar have discussed the names and approved  in EFORT congress, then we sent them emails and asked  if they accept their new positions or not. And following the positive response from Francesco, Safa and Your Portugal guy ( the guy that you recommended), Caglar wrote the names.

I am a bit confused about your questions guys. Because all the names were approved mutually. 

By the way guys, don’t forget to post your commends about book series please..Which on would be the first 3 books by the end of this week

About the positions, I had the same idea that Nick has. I agree with the names for the committees (Tomaso, Safa, Luis (PT guy)), but in the interest of transparency, I think the positions should be posted, and the approved by the exec board. I also think we should include the german girl that was interested - either helping Caglar or Giulio, and we also need the czech guy, so I think Nick suggestion is perfect.

About the treasury, I'll contact Shirley today to get it figured out, but the idea is to have a fixed address, that would be EFORT HQ.

I also think that it is fundamental to have minutes of our discussions. Giulio I know you may need help with this. Maybe Tomaso can be your wing man? Tomaso you're fine with this?

Caglar let us know how the progress with the website is going.

2) EFORT have promised to us to have our President (Gazi) officially as a member of the Executive Committee. Gazi please send an email to EFORT about this. We straggled really hard for many years to gain this and it is important to become part of the Committee, and not to loose this benefit.

3) Website. Caglar, do we have a timeline on when the website will be on?

4) Secretary. We need to make sure that our secretary is keeping minutes of our discussions.

5) Prague key person. I started collaborating with the President of the Prague Orthopaedic Association on a research project. I think it is a good opportunity to ask him to introduce a resident to FORTE in order to collaborate for the Session. Do you agree?

Hi All,

First of all I am really excited and glad about the proactive behavior of Nick. I saw him more active compared to last year and happy about that. It means that something will change and will enhance. 

In addition thanks for you outstanding efforts also Joao. You are doing great job.

Here are my suggestions

1. I absolutely agree that we should not repeat our mistake that we did in Istanbul. Because in EFORT 2013 we did not post any committee position and representation.We only wrote the names down and thats it. However as you mentioned I believe that the only way to increase the interest to FORTE is to have more heterogenous groups. And the only way we could provide is forming the committees from several countries. So now I agree to re-established the committees after posting the positions. But my another concern is where do we post that positions and how many countries will be aware of that posting? We don’t have a member email database as well as website as well as FORTE email address as well as regular working facebook account as well as other social medial tools as well as…….everything……!!! So we have to be realistic I think...  Please mention you suggestion about where do we post the positions?  

My solution is we can re-elect them in January 2015 during EFORT ex-Com meeting. But i am not sure if we will be able to organize a general assembly of FORTE in that date. Because if we continue to discuss the same topics several times we could miss the right time and may delay to contact EFORT head office. 

So if you agree first we should  write the preliminary program  of our general assembly and then send it to EFORT and ask them to announce it to 42 National societies. Dear Joao, could you please help to write the preliminary program…Thanks

As far as my experience ( I am working as a contributor editor of "Sports Injury" book which consist of 4 volumes and over 3000 pages with Springer) , that would be better starting with 3 books, because commonly at least one of them will overdue. My suggestion about the topics are General Ortho - Shoulder - Hip. In that case General Ortho and Hip index are done. And we can revise just “Shoulder book”. 

Nick could you please handle it. You a a good reviewer :)

Finally, I think that is necessary e to use an official letter for all kind official communications signed by the President. It is very important for the reputation of an organization. Otherwise people would not care and it will be only an individual opinion not FORTE’s.

Anyway, it is the longest summary that i saw in my life (19 emails subject with EFORT congress Summary:) and sorry for the long 20th email, but I believe it is very promising to start discussing and proceeding with the project. We became a energetic group and would like to thank my friends for your generous support…

I think that we agreed to publish these posts during our meeting from 9-12am on Wednesday. 

We agreed on this, based on the fact that we will attract the interest of more people and get them involved!

Since FORTE is trying to change and involve more the National Societies, it is critical to do so in order to have a clear and transparent representation. If I remember correct the action we decided was to contact the National societies to ask them to advertise these positions in their residents, correct?

The previous times, we were advertising the positions during our sessions, where we had people interested coming to our session. Please note that our meeting normally took place after the session.

This year, we did our meeting before our session, and we did not discuss this during the session, so we did not publicly expressed the interest of involving new people.

I do not know what happened the next day, I was moderating the whole day and -apologies for that- I could not be present. Unfortunately, I was not informed about these names. (If the rest are agreed, it is more than fine with me, but I guess there is no harm to post these positions anyway. Is it?). 

To conclude, my understanding was that we agreed only for the Executive committee positions (President Gazi, Vice-President Nick, Secretary Giulio, Treasurer/President Elect Vide) on that day and we said to publish the rest.

But I guess there was some kind of misunderstanding.

Anyway, let’s see now what is the best way to proceed to build an even stronger and popular FORTE!

Vide: I think we should post them on our current working website. We should advertise this on social media (FB, Twitter, Current mailing list, as incomplete has it is). Of course, for now we cannot reach all countries, but it is of public domain, so it is transparent. 

I think re-election in January is too late. Could we leave it open for 2-4 weeks and make a skype meeting to officialize it? Honestly, i think the only thing posting will do his for the sake of transparency! Tell me your opinion.

Regarding the inclusion of different countries, do we all agree with the attached formation, in the file "board of directors"?
