Ifyou've concerns that the premise of the new ten-parter will stray from the original series' trusted formula, cast them to one side: it turns out Michael Scofield is alive, in prison and needs help breaking out.
Tipping off Scofield's brother Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) on Michael's whereabouts is former prisoner, Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell (Robert Knepper). After enlisting the help of Michael's 'widow' Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) - the former Fox River physician he meets in season one - plans are put into motion to get Michael out.
In conjunction with this week's TCA presentations, FOX has released a sneak peek trailer for the return of Prison Break, returning for a fifth season after over seven years off the air. This time, Michael and Lincoln won't just have to break out of a prison in Yemen, they'll have to "break out of the country itself," as star Wentworth Miller describes.
The video shows behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with Miller and co-star Dominic Purcell (both of whom also appear on The CW's Legends of Tomorrow), along with some of the other returning castmembers. "I think this is going to be even better than the original Prison Break," Purcell enthusiastically says.

After Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) was killed off in the 2009 straight-to-video movie Prison Break: The Final Break, most fans were under the impression that would be the last they saw of this beloved character. Those same fans were quite shocked when Fox announced a new Prison Break event series that not only brings Michael Scofield back from the dead, but also reunites him with his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), his wife Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) and many more characters from the original series. As we get closer and closer to the April 4 premiere, Fox has debuted another trailer with even more new footage.
In the next action-packed chapter of Prison Break, premiering Tuesday, April 4 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on Fox, original series stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Rockmond Dunbar and Paul Adelstein are reunited for an all-new adventure spanning the globe. When clues surface that suggest a previously thought-to-be-dead Michael Scofield (Miller, DC's Legends of Tomorrow) may be alive, his brother, Lincoln Burrows (Purcell, DC's Legends of Tomorrow), reunites with Michael's wife, Sara (Callies, Colony, The Walking Dead), and Fox River State Penitentiary's most notorious escapees, Sucre (Nolasco, Telenovela), T-Bag (Knepper, Heroes) and C-Note (Dunbar, The Mentalist) to engineer the series' biggest breakout ever.
The series, which was filmed on location in Morocco, is created by Paul T. Scheuring. The original producing team, including series creator Paul T. Scheuring, Neal Moritz, Marty Adelstein and Dawn Olmstead, will return to executive-produce the new series, with Scheuring serving as showrunner/writer. The original action drama centered on Michael Scofield, a young man determined to save his convicted brother, Lincoln Burrows, from death row by hatching an elaborate plan to escape from prison. Prison Break" was an immediate critical and ratings hit when it premiered on FOX in the fall of 2005, garnering Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Television Series - Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama (Miller).
The cast for this new event series includes Mark Feuerstein as Jacob Anton Ness, Augustus Prew as Whip, Rick Yune as Ja, Inbar Lavi as Sheba and Paul Adelstein as Paul Kellerman. When it was first announced, it was believed that this series will span between eight to 10 episodes, but an official episode count has not yet been released. Last year, Fox brought back another beloved series, The X-Files with a six-episode limited series, and next month, the latest chapter of the 24 saga will unfold with 24: Legacy, starring Corey Hawkins. If these shows are big hits, don't be surprised if more of your favorite Fox shows from the past aren't eventually revived.
Both Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell currently star on The CW's superhero series Legends of Tomorrow, where they play Captain Cold and Heat Wave, respectively. Last summer, Dominic Purcell revealed that he suffered a massive injury on the set, when a set piece became dislodged and a large iron bar fell on the actor's head. He suffered a broken nose and had two large gashes in his head, which required 150 stitches. With the April 4 premiere date looming large, hopefully we'll have more footage and plot details to share in the weeks and months ahead. Until then, take a look at this new Prison Break trailer below.
The preview sees Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) discover Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) is alive but imprisoned and plan a final escape with his half-brother. Sarah Wayne Callies also appears as Michael's wife, Sara Tancredi.Advertisement
Amaury Nolasco returns as Fernando Sucre, with Robert Knepper as Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell, Rockmond Dunbar as Benjamin Miles "C-Note" Franklin and Paul Adelstein as Paul Kellerman. Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring will serve as showrunner.
Season 5 will air as a nine-episode limited event slated to premiere in early 2017. The series originally had a four-season run from 2005 to 2009 and was followed by the television movie Prison Break: The Final Break.
Michael Scofield appeared to die in The Final Break, and it is unknown if the revival will address the character's brain tumor. Fox Television Group chairman Gary Newman previously told reporters Scheuring came up "with a great twist" to explain Michael living.
Season one of El Chapo drew a large audience to the show, feeding into the mass intrigue have about the figure who has done so many unthinkable things. Seriously, he took a bathroom break in prison, moved a wall piece and dropped into a tunnel with a motorcycle on a track ready for his escape. It honestly writes itself. And while season two will premiere in September, Netflix now has the first season streaming to binge before the premiere.
His brother Lincoln and wife Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies), on the other hand, both tried to move on with their separate lives after Michael's death. But when Lincoln learned from T-Bag (Robert Knepper) that Michael might still be alive and incarcerated somewhere, he immediately informed Sara and talked to their friends including C-Note (Rockmond Dunbar) and Sucre (Amaury Nolasco) to stage an elaborate plan to break his brother out of prison just like what the latter did in the past.
During the Television Critics Association press panel for the upcoming reboot of "Prison Break," new cast member Feuerstein revealed how Michael's unexpected resurrection could cause trouble for Jacob and Sara's marriage.
"In that time while he was presumed dead, he stalked her and fell in love with her and we got married. She had no idea he was anywhere and suddenly he's alive and somewhere tension ensues," the actor stated in the press panel as reported by Deadline. This means that Sara and Michael's reunion might not exactly be happy in an instant.
Seven years after the original series wrapped in May 2009, the first trailer for FOX's revival of the hit show starring Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell is here. Does it answer the question of just how Michael has miraculously come back to life following his apparent death in two-part TV movie The Final Break ? Watch and find out:
Helping free Michael are three of the show's original inmates from Fox River penitentiary: Michael's buddy Sucre (Amaury Nolasco), C-Note (Rockmond Dunbar) and arguably Prison Break's best character, T-Bag (Robert Knepper).
FOX announced on Monday the nine-episode miniseries will premiere in January 2017, although an exact date is yet to be announced. The series will be joined by the network's reboot of 24, titled 24: Legacy, starring Straight Outta Compton actor Corey Hawkins as a Jack Bauer-like character for a new generation because, let's be honest, Kiefer Sutherland has had enough bad days to warrant a lifetime of free therapy.
Prison Break was a standout on FOX's schedule in the 2005-2006 TV season, but, as with most shows that start strongly, it began to wane in writing quality and viewership as the seasons went on. It eventually sputtered to a finish line in 2009 following a fourth season and the aforementioned two-part TV movie.
Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) as seen in the new season 5 trailerFOXThe first official trailer for "Prison Break" season 5 has been released by Fox and it immediately establishes the fact that Michael (Wentworth Miller) is alive and locked in a prison in Morocco. The rest of the trailer reveals subtle plot points regarding where the fifth season may be heading.
As stated in a report from Digital Spy, Sarah Wayne Callies is returning as Michael's love interest Sara and the trailer also reveals their son asking about the nature of his father. The mother and son share a short exchange foreshadowing the eventual return of Michael.
The trailer then cuts to a scene of T-Bag (Robert Knepper) showing Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) a photograph of Michael locked in prison. A quick cut shows someone taking a photograph of Michael through a small hole and it is speculated that this may all be part of Michael's plan in order to break out.
Other clips in the trailer show Lincoln gearing up and reuniting with Sara in order to assemble their team and break Michael out of prison. There is also a clip in the trailer showing Lincoln walking up to the prison bars and promising Michael that the team will be able to break the latter out soon, just in time to stop an impending crisis occurring in the city.
A few sequences in the trailer indicate that there is a plan to shut down the electrical power grid in the whole city, although it is unclear if this is solely for breaking out Michael out of prison or if it is also tied to the plan of stopping the season's main antagonists.
