I'm just thinking my swing fix isn't ingrained fully, at least I'm hoping. I like to move my head towards the target to start the downswing then I'll have to get steep. This causes a fade. When I keep it back properly I hit a draw which is or was my stock shot. Which is what I want to hit every time I hit a golf ball.
So here lies the issue, I can go like a month of hitting a draw and playing well, I take 1 week off like this week where work was busy and the weather wasn't great, and I go to the range and hit 75% all fades. Drives me nuts.
How long have you been at this change? Can take a long time to engrain a change, and even then, still drift back to old tendencies. For me, my tendency is a very upright backswing with a flying left elbow (I'm a lefty). I've been flatter for 8 years, but still drift back to upright when I don't give it thought for a month or so. It's almost like I'm fighting against anatomy or something.
If it is a steep transition I don't think head movement will fix it. Sometimes shortening the backswing can help. Don't shorten your shoulder turn though. Just shorten the arm swing. Club short of parallel tends to be more laid off so you can transition on plane more easily than from across the line.
What I think it is is you have a path of lets say 4 in to out, and when youre playing well the face is 2 closed to the path and the ball starts right and turns back to target. However if you take a week off, you could lose that feeling of how to release the club to get it 2 closed to the path, and instead have it 1 open to the path, which would result in a push cut.
Had a lesson...need to shallow more by getting more separation of my lower and upper body by a good hip bump and clearing of the left hip. Shaft gets too vertical at Impact and some days my hips are faster than others and slower (like when I haven't swung in awhile) so that explains the two way shot shape.
Some days I feel like I have to exert extra effort in the swing. Going after it with a harder swing makes me get too much leg action and the hooks show up. the fades and slices start coming with a too relaxed, lazy swing action. Other times I just don't know...
I find that my posture gets "bad" I tend to get slices and fade. I prefer drawing the ball If I stand too close to the ball I tend to lower my chin to much and get too vertical and steep and slice. The other bad habit is if I don't have a lateral tilt and bend and stand to tripodish I also can get to steep and fade slice
Recently, I've decided that it's time for a new golf bag. Not that my current bag is bad (it's a Titleist cart bag, about 9 years old). I've been doing some research, but after a while, they all look the same. I think I've narrowed my choice between a Sun Mountain C-130 and an Ogio cart bag. They both seem to get similar good/bad comments in reviews. Any thoughts? You guys always provide good advice.
