The budget is tiny, as movies go: only about 30 days of filming, minimal set costs (Ananda is the set), wardrobe by our own Maghi Weber, and almost everyone in the movie lives in an Ananda community. The only professional actor with a significant role Elizabeth Rohm, who plays Juliet, the investigative reporter. The movie is being financed by private investors.

We do, however, have a real Hollywood director, producer, and film crew of about 25 people. It was quite a scene each day: a small army descending upon the Village with trucks full of cameras, lights, reflectors, cranes, cables, crew members, sound equipment, makeup, generators, reflectors, train tracks for cameras to move on, and much more.

I am working at a five star hotel spa and I have recently started giving private yoga lessons for guests. I use the tag line, (yoga for higher awareness) I get such a positive response from the clients I teach. If I sense they are looking for more physical, I do a number of sun salutations until they are breathing heavily (lol) and then go to my regular sequence and style. They like the affirmations. Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher. I am looking forward to the movie and seeing you in it! warm regards, Nikki

The first day first show habit continued even when I started teaching at a Jesuit college in Chennai. But I also had a class on Friday afternoons, and that caused many problems and I missed the first show of many hit films.

When the Dev Anand and Sharmila Tagore film Yeh Gulistan Hamara was to be released, I rushed through the course, and on the day of the film's release, I spent about 10 minutes in the class, and told the students (truthfully) that we had covered most of the course by then, and they should spend the next hour in the library doing specific research. And then the class was dismissed.

Less than half way through the film, I realised how lousy it was and made a resolution to see a Dev Anand or a Rajesh Khanna or an Amitabh Bachchan film only after it had become a certified hit. I was going to give up the first day, first show craze.

I went to college the next day of seeing Yeh Gulistan Hamara, expecting the students to gossip about my movie adventure. Surely, they had spread the word about it, but that was the least thing that I had to worry about. A note from the principal was waiting for me.

It seems he had sent the peon to the class on Friday to tell me I should stop by the principal's room. A couple of priests had complained to him, I learned later, that I was giving out salacious details of church scandals in the European history class.

But the peon found the class, which had 60 students, empty. The principal sent him to the library, but hardly anyone of my students was there. Many had decided to catch Tamil or Telugu movies around the time I was buying ticket for the Dev film.

I said I was far ahead of my schedule for the course and students rarely bunked my class. He made me promise I will never repeat the act, but as I was leaving his office, he whispered, "What was the film you wanted to see so badly?"

When he heard the name, he sighed and said, "I have forgotten how many times I saw Kala Bazar and CID." And in the same low voice, another confession. "Like so many boys, I too wondered why I could not be handsome like Dev Anand. But now all that does not matter because in God's eyes we are all handsome."

Meghana Gulzar's 'Sam Bahadur', which is based on the life of India's first Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, was released in theatres on Friday. The film features Vicky Kaushal in the lead role and it also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra. The movie has created a buzz on social media and garnered praise from critics and audiences alike. Among these reactions, industrialist Anand Mahindra also shared his thoughts on the film. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Mahindra Group Chairman said the movie isn't flawless, but he applauded Vicky Kaushal for his performance in the titular role.

"There is a powerful virtuous cycle created when a country produces movies which tell the stories of their heroes. Especially about soldiers & narratives of leadership & courage. The pride & self belief of people multiplies. More heroes emerge when people know their courage will be feted," Mr Mahindra wrote.

Further, he drew parallels with Hollywood which is renowned for the creation of this virtuous cycle for over a century. He praised the movie and noted that 'Gazab ka banda, sab ka banda' song rightly suggests the same. Mr Mahindra went on to thank producer Ronnie Screvala for making such movies. He also praised Vicky Kaushal for transforming himself into Sam Bahadur.

"Hollywood has created this virtuous cycle for a century. So thank you @RonnieScrewvala for making such movies for us. Especially about this 'gazab ka banda, sab ka banda' as the song says. The movie isn't flawless but @vickykaushal09 transforms himself into Sam Bahadur in a goosebump-raising and award-winning characterisation. Go see it and cheer an authentic Indian Hero," Mr Mahindra wrote in the caption of the post.

'Sam Bahadur' is the biopic on the life and times of Sam Manekshaw, who was the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the India-Pakistan war in 1971. He also holds the distinction of being the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal. The movie has been directed by Meghna Gulzar.

The film opened to stellar reviews on Friday. Film critic Saibal Chatterjee, in his review for NDTV, gave Sam Bahadur a 3.5 star rating out of 5 and he wrote, "It would be easy to describe Sam Bahadur as a Vicky Kaushal show because it is who dominates every major scene in the film. But without the fine balance that Meghna Gulzar strikes between ambition and restraint, neither the spirited central performance nor its emotional (and cinematic) payoff would have been quite as remarkable".
