RELEASED: Two New Tools Relating to Biogas Production!

NEW! Waste to Biogas Mapping Tool BETA Version
(http://www.epa.gov/region9/biogasmap)

The Waste to Biogas Mapping Tool (W2B) is an interactive map created to connect organic waste producers (e.g. grease rendering facilities or food processing facilities) and potential users (e.g. wastewater treatment facilities) for the purpose of biogas production. Streamlining the process of acquiring and disposing of digestible organic materials, this tool enables users to:
  • Determine where potential partner facilities are located and transportation distances
  • Gauge the concentration of facilities in a given area that produce organic waste
  • Allow for an initial assessment of the suitability of an area for expanded codigestion or construction of a new digester facility

EPA is seeking feedback to improve the tool. Please provide us with suggestions on how to improve the next version of the tool at biog...@epa.gov.

Note: This tool is designed for decision-makers with significant technical expertise in the fields of waste management, wastewater treatment, and renewable energy.

Another New Tool: Co-Digestion Economic Analysis Tool (CoEAT)
The Co-Digestion Economic Analysis Tool (CoEAT) assesses the initial economic feasibility of food waste and fats, oils, and grease (FOG) co-digestion at wastewater treatment plants for the purpose of biogas production. This tool is FREE to use and allows users to enter community-specific information to calculate the economic, environmental, and operational viability for a food waste co-digestion system including:
  • Fixed and Recurring Costs
  • Solid Waste Diversion Savings
  • Capital Investments
  • Biogas Production and Associated Energy Value

The tool can be found at http://bit.ly/9zKCqs

CoEAT is designed for decision-makers with significant technical expertise in wastewater treatment and/or solid waste management, including municipal managers, engineers, and wastewater treatment plant managers.
