Dear all,

I'm getting some difficulty with the "showif" option in a survey I'm currently working on. In a nutshell, I want to get information about romantic partnerships from participants. To do that, I first ask whether they've had any relationships lasting longer than 3 months. If they answer yes, I then ask basic questions about each partner, using a counter button where respondents can click on to add up to 4 partners (in the example below, Fig 1). The questions about each partner are hidden by two if-conditions: (1) if the respondents have answered Yes to having had a relationship; (2) counter variable being greater than an integer, starting with 1. The counter button itself only shows if respondents answered Yes to having had a relationship.

This works well the first time around (see Figure 2): if respondents answer negatively to the relationship question, the partner questions are kept hidden.

However, if the respondents come back to this section afterwards using the page buttons, or if they click to go back on their browser immediately after, the partner questions that were previously hidden all show at this point (see Fig 3). I have also noticed that if I leave the survey page and come back to it, say after 10 minutes, this no longer happens and the questions remain hidden.

Is there something happening on the back-end whereby there is a delay in storing the variables (here "romantic" and "count_SP") in the survey data.frame? Or am I setting up the showif conditions wrong?

I appreciate any feedback.

Best wishes,

Paulo
