Hey everyone,

We are currently running a study with multiple mail modules

In the email log we could see that some emails are unfortunately not sent to the recipients and we do not know why. We already connected SendGrid with the Mail-Account but the problem still occurs.

The following warning message appears: “The following From address failed: karla.f...@hu-berlin.de: MAIL FROM command failed, Timeout. Try talking faster next time! ,421,SMTP server error”

Does anyone else have the problem or a solution?

Many thanks in advance,

Karla

Hi Karla,

are the emails re-sent later? If not, are they sent when you manually send them to the email module again?

Are the failures at the end of a string of successes, and are there only failures after the first? Maybe you've exhausted
your free quota of emals at sendgrid? I haven't seen this error before.

Best,

Ruben

Hi Ruben,

thanks for your fast reply.

Mails are not  re-sent later. Mails are sent successfully if I send them to the email module manually.

Could maybe explain what you mean by "Are the failures at the end of a string of successes, and are there only failures after the first?"?

I have not exhausted my SendGrid Limit of free Mails yet.

We wonder if this email delivery bug for some users has always existed but we hadn't seen it until now.

Best wishes,
Karla

Hi Karla, hi Ruben,
I had the same problem when testing a run with me as a participant yesterday. When resending the emails manually, it worked.
Today, I tested the run with another participant and the emails were sent so far.
Best,
Teresa

Hi Karla

From here https://www.arclab.com/en/kb/email/smtp-response-codes-error-messages.html if you check error code 421, it shows that you are hitting your limits (especially check "what limit you have per hour"). What kind of sendGrid account do you have?

Cyril

Hi everyone,

we have also run into the same problem - some emails (seemingly at random) are not sent and we get a similar timeout error message of which I have attached a screenshot below.
It does not seem to be related to hitting any limits because it isn't always the first or the last of a bulk of emails that are sent, as can be seen in the second screenshot. Additionally, we are currently piloting with 8 test users so there really isn't that many emails to be sent.

In case it is relevant: we do not use sendgrid to send the emails.

Best

Hi Cyril,

I have a SendGrid Student Account (with 15.000 Mails per month). The Sendgrid Support told me that there is no hourly limit set by SendGrit.

Best Wishes
Karla
