Wounded by Manchu henchmen during an escape, Yude reaches the temple and seeks sanctuary. Initially the monks reject him, since he is an outsider, but the chief abbot has mercy on the young man and lets him stay. One year later, Yude - now known as San Te - begins his martial arts training in the temple's 35 chambers, in each of which the temple's novices are trained in one aspect of the kung fu fighting arts.
San Te advances more rapidly than any previous student, reaching the rank of deputy overseer within the space of six years. Challenged by the monastery's Discipline Chief, who thinks him unfit for his role, San Te has several exhibition matches with him, only to be beaten each time. However, after inventing the three section staff, San Te finally prevails and gains the chief abbot's permission to become overseer of one of the chambers.

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978): Gordon Liu stars as a young revolutionary who goes to the Shaolin Temple to learn kung fu. He soon begins rigorous martial arts training in the elaborate chambers the Shaolin monks have developed. Once he's finished, he sets out to use his newfound skill to ignite a revolution!
The origin of the title is open to interpretation, with some sources saying it comes from the martial arts film, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, whilst other interpretations say it was inspired by the human heart: it has 4 chambers, and there are 9 members in the clan. 9 x 4 = 36.
It is documented in texts and kung fu movies that to become a Shaolin monk, their last ordeal was to do battle against a series of wooden dummy in the chambers of Shaolin. If they were successful in defeating the wooden dummy, the monk was able to leave the temple.
In the first part of this game, you will have to train your character in the various chambers of Shaolin. Each exercise, which includes balancing on trees, kicking a pendulum and dodging objects coming towards you, will improve your skills like stamina and strength. The better you do in the chambers, the easier it will be for you in part two.
When you finish ALL the chambers with ALL the characters in story mode, allyou need to do is to choose one character that you like, press and holdselect then press the X button! For example, if you choose Raekwon, you'll get a character named Bone Gear,Rza is Fearmentor, Method Man= Hystrix, etc.You can also have them via the character code!Do the code two times at the title screen:
- 1st time: all the secret characters except the Bodyguard and the secretcharacter outfits.
- 2nd time: all the 31 characters (visible and non-visible)!
A man studies kung fu at the Shaolin Temple to fight back against the oppressive Manchu government. We talk about Gordon Liu, the restraint of the narrative at play, the Shaw Brothers, and which of the chambers Stephen could manage.
