Dear Friend of Mauritania,
As current officers of FORIM, we realize that we have not been able to keep the group active as we had hoped to do. We are therefore planning to dissolve the group, unless there is sufficient interest among the recipients of this email, to keep the group going.
If FORIM is to stay in existence for 2009, we need two things:
- to fill the six positions of president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, website editor, and newsletter editor. Ideally, there will be at least two candidates for each position identified by mid-December, so a vote can be held in January.
- board members to be elected by paid members of the group.
If we cannot fulfill these two terms, we will cease to exist as a "Friends of" group as of February 28, 2009.
What does this mean for you?
If you REALLY care about saving the group, and have the time and energy to devote to it in 2009, please run for one of the above-mentioned positions. If interested, reply to friend...@yahoo.com by Dec. 15. (This is the FORIM officers’ shared email address; it is not a listserv.)
If you are looking for a way to stay connected with other Friends of Mauritania, and support charitable and educational projects in country, visit www.forim.org/membership.html and send in your 2009 annual membership dues of $15 ($25 for couples). You can pay online through Google. Those who paid in 2008 (whether by check, through our website, or through the NPCA) do not have to pay again. Please send in your tax-deductible contribution by Dec. 31, 2008. You must be a paid member in order to be an officer.

If we do not get sufficient response to go forward with elections in January, we will take the money we receive in membership dues by December 31 and donate it to the Peace Corps Partnership Program for Mauritania. There is currently $2,811.72 in our bank account; this money is to be used according to the wishes of the members. So if you join, you will be able to give input on how the money is to be used.
