Because you guys wanted to, I am starting a review series on movie that cash in on the success of Godzilla/Kong + etc. monster movies. Today's movie is Monster Island (2019) AKA Lord of The Monsters!

This film is made by The Asylum, a film company that can only do two things: ripoffs and shark movies (both with awful effects). They are also often accompanied by SYFY channel (Who this time around are actually credited unlike most times). Also, they must have ran out of ideas to give the movie the same title of two other movies and various locations in media. The full movie is uploaded on the channel movie central and can found searching in YouTube. Let's start with the movie. The movie starts 20,000 years in the past where a tentacled creature is dueling with a rocky kaiju out at sea, leading to the opening credits (which are surprisingly short dis time round).

Also, these are the only 2 daikaiju in the film! And the second one doesn't appear until the Final battle! Not to mention the posters are false advertising, saying there are 2-5 other ones. I know KotM didn't have all that many monsters to work with only 4 main monsters and the rest making cameos but at least the 4 main kaiju had screen time that was more or less balanced! After, we go to present day. The plot is sum dude (Billy Ford) is planning to mine the volcanic sea floor for a few materials, explained via news exposition. Meanwhile, two guys that work for him, Charisse and Riley are exploring the sea floor with remote control subs. They attempt to get a sample (even tho they were told to survey) only to discover something.

Billy, Charisse, Riley and sailor guy go sailing to get a look at what destroyed the sub diggers bye using the thermal sonar. They discover the undersea volcanic cater has great damaged by something that couldn't have been man made, nor natural. Billy, Riley, Charisse and Sarah ride a submarine to get more answers. They activate the sub lights which awakens something massive.

This is the Tengu (AKA the Destroyer), our Ghidorah stand in for the as the designated bad guy. I don't know about you but I know they could have done better than a starfish. The kaiju surfaces and the sub is brought along with it. The Tengu tries to capsize the boat but sailor guy is able to steer the boat up and the wave. Billy then alerts the government. An airstrike bombs the creature making it bleed out magma. The main cast is unfortunately stuck in the strike zone and stuck on the kaiju. They somehow escape off the creature just before they are melted by the lava. Another submarine starts to bomb the creature with torpedoes (maybe). The Tengu attacks both subs and the military sub can' get out of the way fast enough. After sum filler, Sarah gives gives info about this being an ancient creature that cause coastal damage. The government tell Billy to stay out of the situation. Sarah also tells about a woman she knew that studied Kaiju. Billy, Riley and Charisse dropped of at their base and use an underwater drone to see what they are dealing with. Meanwhile, Sarah meets up with old lady friend (Rena) and chat. Sarah describes the kaiju while Rena draws a sketch to clarify which kaiju it is. But she apparently has the drawing skills of a toddler.

I bet I could draw something better in a minute or less! Rena tells Sarah about the Tengu and how it feeds on volcanic materiel and use it as a weapon, making it like a volcano. She also tells Sarah about its rival, the Living Mountain (AKA the Kaiju Killer) which is the only way to the Tengu. The 3 other guys use th underwater drone to get a better look at the Tengu's 100s of metal teeth and finds a weak spot. The Tengu then notices the drone and eats it. They theorize the kaiju is heading toward a Super volcano (didn't catch the name but I think they said Taupo) and then warn the government. Meanwhile, Rena says the Living Mountain would probably be on Monster Island. Much later, Billy tells the government about the weak (being the throat). The government start an attack on the kaiju, using a sonic weapon which stuns it but then it gets angry. They send sum explosives but it then in swats one of the battleships. Billy and company send the drone to send explosives down the Tengu's throat.

The government however don't want Billy to get involved and the 3 are taken into custody. Meanwhile, the kaiju gets flipped over in an explosion and is presumed dead, meaning Billy's plan worked I guess.

Meanwhile, Billy, Charisse and Riley are being transported by the army in a truck and are called by the Government again. Meanwhile meanwhile, an egg lands in a park and out hatches a baby Tengu. The truck containing Billy and company comes across another egg that also hatches. And how a dragon with horse skulls for a face becomes a giant starfish is beyond me.

The baby Tengu breathes fire on one of the people that shot it and impales the driver with its wing tip. Military woman tries to distract the dragon while the main cast escape but she is incinerated within seconds. The baby Tengu also kills Riley while they escape through the tunnels. Billy and Charisse escape the dragon before meeting up with Sarah and Rena. Rena says how they need to awaken the Living Mountain, using the Tengu's blood. A flock of Tengu attack a helicopter as they head to the Taupo Super volcano to dig into it and feed (Like Billy said they would).

The main cast then get an unhatched Tengu egg they need for blood, strap a harness on it and take a helicopter and FINALLY go to Monster Island (The title of the movie if u didn't notice) an hour and 10 mins into the movie. THIS MOVIE TAKES OVER AN HOUR TO GET THE NAME SAKE LOACTION!!! The Tengu egg hatches as they start to land and it takes down the helicopter. The main cast are the only survivors. They lure the baby Tengu into some rock formations where it starts to spew lava into the floor for whatever reason, into the 'Eye of The Mountain', FINALLY awakening The Living Mountain (U know, the poster boi for the movie?).

And this is what our Godzilla stand in for the movie is. Wow. Just wow. The film makers apparently though a a pile of rocks that can shoot a lazer beam from it's eye is better than a dinosaur that can breathe atomic fire. Billy is buried in a small pile of rock and we supposed to believe he is dead. The baby Tengu starts to screech a distress call to call in the rest of the flock as it is squished by the Living Mountain. Billy is alive (Wow, what a shock). The Living Mountain starts swatting bugs.

Again, we have a pile of rocks that can shoot a lazer! Much better than an atomic fire breathing dinosaur! Meanwhile, a news reporter is reporting on the carcass of the adult Tengu. Her acting is ick but not the worst I've seen. The Tengu suddenly wakes up and starts flying. WOT!?

The Living Mountain spends the rest of the final battle laying down while the Tengu wraps its arms around it. The main cast make an arrow out of obsidian to get Kaiju blood from the baby Tengu carcass and shoot it into the eye of the Living Mountain. Both Kaiju are blown up and the Living Mountain is rebirthed as an egg.

The main cast decide to take care of the egg, Billy stops his mining, Rena says there are still more Kaiju out there and the film ends. And that was Monster island. That Monster design are stupid, the effects sucked (tho they not the worst) and the film focuses on unimportant details. I rate this film 3 out of 5 stars/4 out of 10 stars. I hope you enjoyed and goodbye.
