The ten most important things I experienced in Salone.

 

1. Trust in God, health, safety, food, housing, provisions in a poor culture, no insurance(s).
2. Trust in People, who is a friend, who can I trust
3. Love for those who are different, Christians with 5 wives, Muslims, Animists
4. Community living, dealing with one another’s living styles 
5. Globalisation -Lexus and the Olive Tree, rich, materialism, technology, poor with cell phones
6. Concept of love-different expressions of it, i.e. no affection shown to children, multiple wives, girlfriends
7. Fatalism – God killed my child why do I need to go to the hospital with my child?
8. Traditions/culture stronger than common sense, female genital mutilation, children with disabilities, ritual murders, devil societies
9. Allocation of resources must be efficiently used in order for survival, sustainability, self-preservation
10. Accountability of self and materials and the worldly goods we have
