Inaugural meeting in forming Faculty of Applied Science Alumni Association of University of Sri Jayewardenepura will be held on 16th March (Saturday) at 4.00 p.m. at the Faculty Auditorium. Your presence at the meeting to make this event a success is very much appreciated.
Faculty of Applied Science, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, having been established 50 years ago, has now become one of the leading Faculties of Science in the country. Even as a very small Faculty, 3-4 decades ago, it has been able to produce talented and energetic graduates and post-graduates who could compete with products of any other Faculty of the country. As a result many of our Applied Science Faculty graduates have always been able hold ‘high posts’ in the public as well as private sector in the past as well as at present.
We are pleased to note that at present through 8 academic departments with over 100 academic staff members, at a given time Faculty has more than 1000 undergraduate and around 100 post graduate students. As all of us are aware our Faculty has been in the forefront of pursuing several challenges and developments in science education in Sri Lanka by introducing more applied aspects of science through courses in the fields such as polymer science, food science, fisheries biology, forestry and environmental science etc some of which are unique to the Faculty.
As past graduates of the Faculty, we feel that it is high time that we assist our Faculty in its effort to produce valuable citizens through more useful and better education. In order to foster and promote the commitment of our Science Alumni towards activities and services of the Faculty of Applied Science and the USJP we thought of forming The “Faculty of Applied Science Alumni Association” of the USJP which we believe is a long-felt need.
