Dear Susan
–
Call your Senators and tell them to
confirm Mel Watt

Rep. Mel Watt is the nominee to replace Ed DeMarco at the FHFA,
which oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
|
If you could make one phone call that would stop the foreclosure
crisis and allow help millions of families to stay in the homes, would
you do it?
Everyone who has fought for a fair end to the
housing crisis knows it is a long, hard fight, and no one action can
fix the damage that the big banks have done to our communities. But we
are asking you to make two calls right now that could make a big, big
difference.
Please call your U.S. Senators right now at
1-866-200-6444.
Tell them: “Please vote to
confirm Representative Mel Watt as Director of the Federal Housing
Finance Authority (FHFA). No filibusters, no delays.“
(It’s easy to call. Dial 1-866-200-6444 to reach the U.S. Senate
switchboard and give your state. Do it twice to reach both your
Senators. )

As
you may have head the current FHFA Acting Director, Ed DeMarco, a
temporary appointee left over from the Bush Administration, has been a
major roadblock to ending the mortgage foreclosure crisis. Under his
direction Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have refused point-blank to even
discuss fair modifications with families whose homes loan are
“underwater. ” Each year, they have wasted millions of taxpayer
dollars on needless foreclosures that devastate communities.
But now we can replace the old, foreclosure-happy leadership at
FHFA (the agency that supervises Fannie and Freddie) with new and
highly qualified permanent Director – Rep. Mel Watt an experienced,
nominee respected by all sides and willing to find reasonable
solutions to the housing crisis.
Rep. Watt’s confirmation
is expected to come to a vote this week. So, please, call
right now.
Please call your U.S. Senators right now

Besides making the
foreclosure crisis worse, FHFA’s current leadership has sued and
threatened to redline communities - including Richmond, California
where Local Principal Reduction is moving forward - that attempt to
find local solutions. We need a new leader over this agency that
affects so many lives.
This one call won’t end the
foreclosure crisis, but it really could help turn the tide. Please
call today.

Kevin, Nathan, Jeff,
Shab, and the entire Home Defenders League team. http://www.homedefendersleague.org/
