I work at a dealership that has done away with both the BDC and the
Internet sales department. The leads are now being passed out to the
sales staff. We have two locations 15 sales staff and myself
overlooking it. I understand these are tough times, however we make
our own problems. It becomes overwelming . I handle all of the emails
I then assign them to a salesperson which handles the phone calls to
the customer. Communication between the sales staff and myself is a
must other wise the deals don't get done or are blown with bad
information. In the past I ran both the internet with one sales person
myself and the BDC with 5 employees. This new way is a much harder way
of doing business.... then there are the pay issues. I get a base
salary which was cut in half when we took this new direction of doing
business. How is your dealership handling leads and pay?

Tough times or not, we all have to adhere to a finely tuned process.

I manage multiple locations as well without a dedicated internet department and we are increasing our sales and closing ratios month after month.  We have a strong process and we work the process.

I review follow-ups with sales people and managers because if a sale is not closed it decreases all of our paychecks.  I review reports monthly with the dealer principal as well.

Yes, it is a lot of work, but the results are definitely worth it.

Linda,

Here we have a small BDC department, I handle the back end of the
website, and we have someone that contacts customers. Our contact
person sends e-mails, but also calls the customer as well.  When they
come in they are assigned a salesperson the customer tells us they
have talked to someone as well. (We are on an UP System so they are
assigned to whoever is next.) How our pay scale works is they have a
per hour rate like around $9 or so. Then they also recieve bonuses,
$10 per appointment and $25 if they sell.

Hopefully that helps!
