Dear all,

Just a brief introductory message about our project, OpenCitations.

The OpenCitations project (http://opencitations.net) aims at creating an open repository of scholarly citation data – the OpenCitations Corpus (OCC) – made available under a Creative Commons public domain dedication, which provides in RDF accurate citation information (bibliographic references) harvested from the scholarly literature. Since the beginning of July, the OCC has started to ingest and process the reference lists of scholarly papers available in Europe PubMed Central.

All the bibliographic references harvested from the scholarly literature are described using the SPAR Ontologies (http://www.sparontologies.net) according to the OCC metadata document (https://dx.doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.3443876). A first downloadable dump of the Corpus is now available at http://opencitations.net/download (published via Figshare).

All software developed for harvesting citation data is available on GitHub (http://github.com/essepuntato/opencitations) released as open source software (ISC Licence) and can be freely reused in any project and context.

A more detailed introduction of OpenCitations is available at http://rawgit.com/essepuntato/opencitations/master/paper/occ-lisc2016.html. Please follow us on Twitter (@opencitations) for being up to date with all the news related with the project, and don’t hesitate to contact us for comments, suggestions, or further information!
