GitHub user clsid' fork of Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a lightweight player with broad format support. It includes keyboard shortcuts, audio/video controls, a web interface for remote control and more. The program is derived from Media Player Classic (MPC), a media player that mimics the interface of Windows Media Player 6.4, and adds support for EVR rendering, H.264 and VC-1 video hardware acceleration, bugfixes, additional languages, decoders and more.

Note: this is a fork of the original version that ceased development in 2017.

No matter what IMO Media Player Classic has always been, and will always be the best overall Media Player. I've been using for a very long time on many different OS's and it fulfilled my needs on all of them. I like the look and all the rest, maybe I'm being partial but so what it works 4me :) Great job by the makers so thanks for the hard work.

MIKLO

It doesn't matter whether your system is 32 or 64 bit, it's the version of MPC-HC you download that matters about the .ini.

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit but the 32-bit version of MPC-HC, the application didn't change the mpc-hc64.ini at all but the mpc-hc.ini.

@ripu: thank you for your suggestion. i did reset the settings, but it makes no difference at all. still the same problem here (although fast seek on). searching the net shows several hits regarding the seeking problem, but i have not found a solution to it.

@skall For me mpc-hc is much faster than potplayer, both in seeking and opening a media file. Make sure to check "Fast seek" in "Options->Tweaks". You can also try to reset the settings from "Options->Miscellaneous".

@system: yes, but unfortunately that didnt change a thing. when seeking through a clip it takes nearly 2 sec. until playback resumes, it is not seamless at all (core i5 8gb ram). such a pitty, as i really would like to give mpc a chance. wonder if i am the only one having this problem?

@Ruby: Wow, that's it; thanks very much! After all the years I've been using Windows software I'm amazed that I managed to overlook the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom. Wish those Windows dialog boxes were resizable!

Thanks, billon. That was actually the first place I looked, but it only covers keyboard shortcuts, and I have the volume control set at Up Arrow and Down Arrow. I've also looked through all the other settings menus. Previously I was using SMPlayer, which had mouse options, but I like MPC-HC much better.

I'm very satisfied with MPC-HC v. 1.6.8.7417, but does anyone know how to stop the mouse wheel ("edge scroll" on my touchpad) from acting as a volume control? I can't find it anywhere in the settings, and the only help file is the online manual, which is incomplete. Currently the only way I can disable this is by disabling the edge scroll altogether, but I need it for other purposes.

i can vouch for MPC-HC. unless it fails (which is rare), it is always better than VLC as the former does not form ghost image and so on. i am very surprised to see that MPC-HC can even play a very large size 3D full-SBS file as side-by-side video without a hitch (it does not render "3D" effect though;well, it does not claim either). powerDVD10, the well-known and super-expensive software, which is supposed to play 3D with compatible display, does not play the same file at all.

I dropped a jpg file in it and got a BSOD (winxp sp2).

I will continue using it because it is tiny (below 5MB mpress-ed) and handy and consists of only a few files compared to other media players.

The current official release is old. SVN releases are here

the site has svn updates for a few freewares...

mpc hc, vsfilter/directvobsub, ffdshow, x264, mingw, peerblock. xchat-wdk. everything is compiled

@Magibon. You should write clearer English, so that people can actually understand what you are referring to.

You wrote "Media Player Classic has..." and "the Media Player Classic build...", not Media Player Classic Home Cinema etc.

MPC-HC plays MKV files OK here. Actually this compact player can play about 99.99% of the media files I feed it. VLC can play the other 0.01% and is better at playing web streams in my experience as well as a few other things.

@ MarkB

You must not understand English.

I was referring to your Beta MPC-HC at xvidvideo.com.

You can download just the "Standalone Filters" which are used by MPC-HC.

They built their own filters, thus their Beta MPC-HC.

You do realize you can register individual codecs via "regsvr32" command?

I manually register FFDshow and Gabest Matroska Splitter to use with WMP and it plays everything i throw at it.

MPC-HC uses internal filters, but you can also specify external filters.

i.e. you can force MPC-HC to use Haali Matroska Splitters.

Now.. back to your Beta package..

i tried their MKV splitter and it pixelates, and stutters when cueing the timeline. Once i experienced that, i did not proceed any further and just dumped it.

@Magibon. I did not refer to Media Player Classic nor to a codecs pack, but only to the the latest builds of Media Player Classic Home Cinema, which is a fork of Media Player Classic with numerous codecs built in.

@ MarkB

im referring to the Media Player Classic build you're referring to, built by that russian site. I run multiple players, and am always looking for the best set up for Codecs/PIcture Quality.

Media Player Classic has a Codecs Packs Only separately. I downloaded the beta pack you referred to and tried their MatroskaSplitter.

@ MarkB

there are many builds available.

actually, i tried the MatroskaSplitter from that version and it did not work well. It kept pixelating, and when i cued the timeline, it caused lag.

I stick with this version. Has not let me down.

In addition, TPFC does not post Beta Builds unless it's no longer being developed.

@harhol: If you only want English, then you can delete all the DLL files except for mpciconlib.dll.

It really only needs 3 files (mpc-hc.exe, mpc-hc.ini & mpciconlib.dll). After compressing I haven't noticed much of a difference, player still starts and plays as usual.

But I have noticed sometimes it better not to compress DLL files. Some programs don't work right, but MPC HC still seems ok if you do.

Also DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) can be buggy for some ATi graphics cards (green lines, videos looks weird), so turn it off if you need to.

@ ChemZ: some information: above in my first post I mentioned that my laptop wouldn't restart. After many trials it finally restarted but XP was soooo slow that it was impossible to work with any program. Luckily I had a clone of my HDD from just a month ago - I put it into the laptop and

- great joy - the laptop restarted without any problem and all was back to normal, i.e. quick as before.

So I'm really afraid of starting the vers 1.5.0.2827 again...

@ChemZ: I had, before starting MPC-HC, deleted all language DLLs except for es, de, fr, it. Do you mean I should delete all of them?

If I then compress the exe-file and the mpciconlib.dll with UPX would then the player start? I would be grateful if you

could give some more help on this. Thanks!
