welcome everyone so far
Pears and apples are coming in. I've also found ripe autumn olives
last week, which is quite early. I gathered a bunch of pears today and
some elderberry too. And mushrooms, of course. On that note, I'm
giving a wild mushroom hunting class Saturday 9:30-2 at Warren Wilson.
Write me directly for more info.

So what are ripe autumn olives?  Haven't seen or heard of them!  Great apples are out right now too.....and drying them as slices is good way to preserve them for winter months.

Are the pears wild or located on farms?

Autumn olive (elaeagnus unbellata) is a shrub that can get pretty big
(over 10 feet tall). It is used a lot in landscaping and is
considered pretty invasive, but at least it gives us some nice
berries. The berries are reddish with speckles of grey-white. I like
them raw. You can also cook them and make syrup, but you have to
strain the seeds out.

Be sure that you put discarded seeds in garbage to go to landfill.  Do not put in compost or flush down toilet.  You can also try your garbage disposal, if you have one.
