If you are in Birmingham on Saturday Evening, come to the YWCA for our FOOTMAD CONTRA!
The band is the fabulous CONTRAPLICITY from Atlanta,
Our caller is the also fabulous DEANNA PALUMBO,
also from Atlanta.
Atlanta band, Contraplicity (formerly Free Association), plays flowing, textured danceable music on fiddle, flute and piano. Deanna Palumbo is known for her pleasing choice of dances.
Hopefully you have recovered from our wonderful New
Year's Eve Dance, and sticking with your New Year's Resolution, are
ready to dance some more!
It won't be much of a dance unless we get THREE VOLUNTEERS to help set up and sit at the admissions table though. Please sign up for one of the volunteer jobs either from our website, or using this link:

Here are some other music things you need to know!
1. THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 14
The Friday night band at Georgy-Alabam is Pretty Little Goat--a really
talented and charming young band from Brevard, NC. with hot
instrumentals and tight, interesting vocal harmonies. They also will be
appearing at Moonlight on the Mountain on Sunday night, Jan. 14,
7:30-9:30. So if you can't go to Georgy-Alabam, here's your chance to
hear them in town. Even if you do go to G/A, you'll want to hear more
of their music. Win-Win.
2. SUNDAY JANUARY 21
A DON PEDI DULCIMER HOUSE CONCERT AND WORKSHOP AND JAM!
Don Pedi will be in town on Sunday, January 21. Don has been recognized as the man who could “really play” a dulcimer. He is a pioneer in that his music has broken new ground and cleared a path for others. In Don’s hands, the dulcimer has been accepted as an instrument well suited to playing traditional Southern Dance music. Don is well known as an instructor and performer at Dulcimer festivals around the country. You can find out more about him at his web site: http://www.donpedi.com.
Don will give an afternoon workshop and an evening house concert at the home of Rob and Kathy Angus in north Shelby County.
The workshop will begin at 4:00 PM; the house concert will begin at 6:30. There will be jamming afterward.
Don says “The workshop could include some playing techniques and some repertoire or something specific, like fiddle tunes, sacred songs, ‘little’ songs, ballads, 60s folk, etc.”
Suggested donations are $20 for the workshop, $30 for the workshop and concert, and $15 for just the concert.
3. THIS FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY
