First
Our friends in Tuscaloosa are putting on a CONTRA this Friday night - AND IT IS FREE.  If you would like to carpool, or have room to drive others, let me know and I will do what I can to match drivers with riders.  It would be lovely if Birmingham FOOTMAD could show up to support this dance - and besides, you would get to dance to WAXWING!!!   With Calling by SETH TEPHER!!!
The dance will be at 7:30 pm until 10:30 at the Smith Hall Museum of Natural History at the University of Alabama. The building is on the Quad at the corner of 6th Ave. and Capstone Drive.
There is limited parking for museum visitors located behind Smith Hall with access from Hackberry Lane. Visitors can view a UA parking map at http://bamaparking.ua.edu/ for more parking choices.
Students, faculty, staff, and visitors can ride UA's Crimson Ride bus system for free. Visit the Crimson Ride web page at http://crimsonride.ua.edu/.

Second
We will have WAXWING at our dance this Saturday Night!  Robbin Marcus will be driving over from Atlanta to call some wonderful dances for us.  If you play your cards right, you can dance to Waxwing two nights in a row, with two really fine callers!  More info about our dance at the YWCA in Birmingham can be found at our lovely website:  www.FOOTMADbirmingham.org

Third*
DON'T READ THE FOLLOWING (unless you want to have fun at other dances or other events...)
When in Doubt Swing (WIDS) 2012 promises to be loud, proud and a little bit brassy when ELIXIR comes to Dallas, TX April 20-22.
This 3-day contra dance weekend will be a blast for newcomers and older-timers alike.  To register, to go http://www.nttds.org/wids2012/home.html  and save $10 when you register by March 31.  The earlier you register, the better your chances of getting home hospitality.
Elixir is a high energy dance band and caller combination that blends superb calling, driving fiddle and guitar playing, and the rich texture and rhythmic excitement of a full horn section. Elixir performs tightly crafted music drawing on a wide range of styles and evoking a variety of moods. Elegant melodies evolve into raucous Dixieland horn riffs; transcendent harmonies, playful improvisations, and rock, swing and reggae-inspired rhythms weave in and out of traditional and original Irish, French Canadian and New England tunes. Listen to a sample of their music on their website:  http://www.elixirmusic.com.  More info: http://www.nilesfredland.com
WIDS SILENT AUCTION If you have new or gently used dance garments, jewelry, bags, artwork or even a “white elephant gift” you no longer need, please consider contributing them for sale in the Silent Auction at WIDS.  We plan to announce the highest bidders Saturday night so you can pay and take your treasure home on Sunday.
FUN RAISER: Best of Show Pageant On Saturday evening, WIDS will feature a chance for you to show off your fanciest dance garment and possibly win a prize at the "Best of Show" Pageant. MEN, enter to show off your wildest, brightest, funnest Shirt, Shorts or Skirt. WOMEN, enter to show off your neatest, prettiest, swingingest Skirt or Dress or outfit in “The Skirt Flirt.” The garments can be new, used or from the thrift store. The only rule: THEY MUST BE MAKING A DEBUT AT AN NTTDS DANCE.

*I am going to start listing a "Don't read the following" so those of you that don't want to be bothered with more than the basics, can ignore that section.  However, if you enjoy knowing about other fun stuff, it will be there for you to read.  Hope that makes everybody happy.

Thanks everybody.  Keeping dancingKeep having fun!
