Early Childhood Teacher

SPHDS Early Childhood Program is seeking a qualified early childhood teacher/floater to work with the 18 months through 5-year olds . Now interviewing both English and Hebrew speaking teachers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating a Culturally Rich and Engaging Play-Based Environment: Establishing a nurturing and stimulating classroom that promotes exploration and creativity, joyfully incorporates Jewish holidays, traditions, and cultural elements, and fosters an appreciation for the Hebrew language within a play-based, emergent setting
  • Developing and Implementing an Emergent Curriculum: Designing, implementing, and adapting a dynamic, play-based, and emergent curriculum that is responsive to children's diverse learning needs, curiosities, and interests
  • Observing and Assessing Child Development: Utilizing observation skills to track individual developmental progress, document learning, and use these insights to inform and adjust curriculum planning accordingly
  • Collaborating and Communicating: Effectively communicating with families about their child's experiences and development, sharing insights into our curriculum approach, and working collaboratively with colleagues to enhance classroom practices and school-wide initiatives
  • Ensuring Compliance and Documentation: Completing required documentation accurately and in a timely manner, and adhering to all licensing regulations and school policies
  • Providing Positive Guidance: Supporting children's social-emotional development through respectful, empathetic, and positive guidance techniques that foster self-regulation and prosocial behaviors
  • Maintaining Professionalism and Adaptability: Demonstrating reliability, flexibility, creativity, and openness to feedback for continuous professional growth and improvement
  • Meeting Physical Requirements: Possessing the physical ability to actively engage with young children at their level, participate in various activities (indoors and outdoors), and perform necessary classroom duties

This position demands a thorough understanding of child development (particularly within a play-based, emergent framework), strong communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to adapt to the dynamic needs and interests of young learners in a culturally rich environment

Ideal Candidate Profile

A dedicated and creative individual who is passionate about working with young children and possesses a strong understanding of early childhood development, particularly play-based and emergent curriculum approaches. They should be patient, energetic, and eager to engage with children on their level, fostering inquiry and a love for learning. We are looking for a collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Essential qualities include responsibility, punctuality, flexibility, a proactive approach, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

The ideal candidate demonstrates genuine care for children's well-being, fosters an inclusive, fair, and respectful environment, and is motivated to provide meaningful, child-centered learning experiences. A genuine interest in, appreciation for, and willingness to actively participate in celebrating Jewish holidays, traditions, and fostering a love for Jewish culture and the Hebrew language within the classroom is highly valued. Fluency in Hebrew is a plus, but not required.

Job requirements and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred but not required
  • Minimum 6 months experience working with children ages 2-5 in a licensed child care center or comparable group program
  • Early Childhood Education Units: Minimum 12 ECE semester units (including core classes)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail
  • Flexible with strong conflict resolution abilities
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and reflective practice
  • Preferred knowledge of open-ended, play-based learning environments

Pay: $22.00 - $30 per hour

About the school

South Peninsula Hebrew Day School, located in Sunnyvale, is an established institution with over forty years of history. South Peninsula, currently serves students from preschool through eighth grade. The school is bilingual and bicultural. Our students are diverse with respect to their ethnic backgrounds, countries of origin, languages spoken and levels of economic privilege.
