I have a family member that has bunions.

(1) Besides surgery, are there any alternatives for recovery?

Many articles have mentioned about getting the right shoes. Unfortunately over the years, the quality of people working in the shoe specialist shops have been replaced with foreign workers who has no experience in shoe measurements.

(2) Any good shops to recommend to get the right pair of shoes?

Hi Andrew

Thank you for your enquiry.

There are two treatment options. Conservative (non-surgical) and Surgical.

Conservative is focused on getting the person to be able to walk pain free. Shoes are one component but there are custom made insoles and other devices used to reduce the bunion angle. This will get you pain free and prevent it from worsening.

Shoe advice is based on the type of foot you have and how bad the bunion is. There is no "one shop stop" providing all the shoe types unfortunately.

Hope I was of help.

Regards
