I don't know if anyone remembers (or cares for that matter), but there was a post a while back about an app called Serva.

I've installed and config'd it and have had success with Win7/8 installs, but can't seem to get the XP/2003 to work correctly.

Has anyone else worked inside this app?

I have successfully installed XP with it. Where are you getting stuck? I had quite a few problems with either BSOD's or just locking up until I added LAN drivers to the $OEM$ folder.  I was testing in VMware. Also I quit using it because it seemed like every time I restarted Serva my cfg file was overwritten. I had custom entries that worked fine, until reboot. I was using the free version, not sure if it changes with paid, but I went back to WDS.

I'm getting hung up on the XP/2003 splash screen.  The documentation specifically says that this is most likely due to a Null Session Share configuration issue, but I've been over them like a thousand times and can't seem to see where there's a problem.  NSS's aren't rocket science and the documentation seems pretty clear.  The WIA_RIS_SHARE should be set up as a Read-Only NSS at the root of the Serva TFTP path.  The WIA_WDS_SHARE (one level in from the Serva TFTP root) doesn't require the NSS due to the authentication mechanism built in.

I did overlook one registry config that I took care of yesterday, and corrected a NIC driver issue that was preventing Serva from seeing the TFTP piece.  For the life of me I can't get XP or 2003 to load beyond the splash screen no matter what I do.

As for custom configs, according to the developer's documentation (section 5) they would be reset each time Serva is restarted, but there's nothing in there about whether that's just in the non-supporter version.  Did you run into any special considerations or configurations before you got the XP stuff working?

The only custom entries I had were I changed the names in the menu to be more descriptive and I added an option to boot from hard disk, these would not have had an effect on XP/2003 working or not. Let me see if I still have the VM setup so I can look at what I did. I do recall having the same issue you are at one point....

I'm not exactly sure at this point what change made it work but My "root" folder is called PXE. C:\PXE and has full permissions for Everyone as well as the WIA_RIS share. I also added the Anonymous logon read/write options. Also my Serva machines is Win 7 Pro X86 if that makes a difference.

Ok, well, I'm working with the developer to see if we can nail down what the problem is.  I'll post more later as things develop.

While your at it could you find out about the custom entries and whether it applies only to the non-supported version?
