Sorry if this in an obvious subject, I have searched and watched any videos I thought may help me. I provide a lot of remote support, but for packaging for remote deployment I can only seem to get the .zip to about 70 megs, which of course includes all the third party stuff I've downloaded. I don't really want to make custom zips for every client based on my expected loadout, I'd rather be downloading them fresh each time they need them. I'm just hosting my zip in my public dropbox folder and snagging it from there on the remote machine, as my shop upload is terribly slow.

I'm sure there's something very obvious that I'm missing about this, can you fill me in? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Thanks.

Are you a dCloud subscriber?  If so, dCloudLauncher.

Otherwise, your first task is to keep your preconfigured D7 zipped up with NO 3rd party apps!  this should be around 7MB in size.  That is what you download to the remote computer.  D7 will download all of it's 3rd party apps as needed.

You know, I'm dumb, I'm sorry. As soon as I saw your reply in my inbox, before I even clicked it, I thought to myself "just zip a fresh copy, ya dummy."

Now I just need to finally sort out the difference between custom apps and ketarin usage, and I'll be set. Thanks.

haha no problem.  The ketarin thing I only use on copies of D7 on my workstation, which gets copied to my flash drives, etc.  But for remote support I always allow D7 to download apps on the fly.

Right---I understand, but I'm unclear on the difference of adding 3rd party apps for "quick access" from d7, whether using ketarin or the built in interface. The documentation is there, I just haven't had time to investigate it fully.
