Hello Gentlemen and ladies (prob none hereJ)

Okay after a year at my new IT shop I have worked out that 50% at least of the pc’s, laptop etc. that come in are not worth messing with. Some take the whole day to fix properly and others even longer than that.

I am taking the following steps to speed things up.

We check in all machines for a $55 diagnostic. If we can repair it the $55 comes off the final price. Now the diagnostic on any machine that boots up, consists of

1.       Open msconfig

2.       Open device manager

3.       Open install remove programs

4.       Open system & app logs

5.       Run %temp% in the start dialog

If there are dozens of old applications like limewire and masses of drivers and msconfigs and temp files we never bother trying to fix this. We simply sell them an upgrade OS or a system reinstall and back up, clean up and restore data. We mostly refuse to reinstall Vista.

If a machine seems like it is lightly infected we hit it with D7 etc. and try get it out the door is say four hours.

Now I here in Australia Toshiba has done a great job and about 80% of all laptops are Toshiba of one type or another.

Now what I want to make things even faster is to preinstall win 7 on a heap of say 500 gig laptop HDD’s. All we do then is swap out their drive, back it up, remove licence keys, drivers  etc. for reinstallation and LLF the original drive and prep it up for the next machine. Yes we sort them for sizing etc. and do the HDD check on the drive. We have to chuck a few but we charge about 50% of the price of a new drive plus the labour and the customer gets a perfect machine and the only down side is usually reinstalling some apps. We can usually do this in half the time it takes to run scans etc.

No what I want to know is, is there a way to install all Toshiba or any other make of laptop drivers on the image so the right one install correctly in an unattended way. This is the only thing that takes up more time than it should.

Thanks in advance

Darc
