In one of your posts below, you said that you'd like to know a little
bit about the folks who have signed up for the group. Thought I'd try
to answer some of your questions!
I've been a foodie since a pretty young age--I remember "reading"
cookbooks as early as age 10. In 1999 I decided to take a break from
college to figure out what I really wanted to be studying. I got a job
at a gourmet food store, and moved into my first apartment. That is
when I really started to cook (I'd cooked for my family when I was
growing up, but I didn't get particularly creative)and to collect
cookbooks.
I returned to school and created my own bacherlor's degree program in
interdisciplinary food studies. These studies included food ethics,
anthropology, sociology, and anything else that I could manage to
relate to food. While there, I published 4 food articles in a local
periodical, and wrote a commentary for Vermont Public Radio.
These days I'm in a full-time M.A. program that is focused on the
American Diet and Cuisine. I also have a job helping to write an
on-line chocolate encyclopedia. Unfortunately, in addition to these
things, I work full-time, so I'm extremely busy. I have an idea for a
novel that is food related, and I would love to write more articles for
publication, but at this point, it's not really feasible. I am going
to be starting a blog related to food issues. Once it's up, I'll post
a link.
Anyway, that's me!
