Hello All,

I’m very pleased to let you know that one of my PhD students, Nurul Islam Mohamed Yusoff, has had their first paper published. It is entitled ‘Towards zero waste: A comprehensive framework for categorizing household food waste’ and is published in the journal of Sustainable Production and Consumption. The paper can be accessed freely here: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.spc.2024.05.002.

We believe this is the most comprehensive framework for categorising all household food waste. So comprehensive in fact, that the diagram did not fit in the main paper and had to be included in the supplementary information – which can be found in ‘Supplementary material 2’ in the paper (sorry a direct hyperlink doesn’t work).

Here is a small challenge for you: We have evaluated the categorisation process fairly rigorously, but if you believe you can think of a food waste that falls outside of the framework, please let us know.

We believe that by identifying and understanding specific types of food waste, then more targeted interventions could be developed, which will help in the global efforts to reduce food waste.

Best Regards,

Elliot
