Yesterday was a milestone day for the L.A. Kitchen. After months of planning, we launched
pilots of our innovative food recovery and culinary job-training programs. Thanks in large part to our amazing partnership with
St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, we welcomed L.A. Kitchen's first class of students, who will participate in a 15-week course that emphasizes culinary expertise, nutrition education and food-justice advocacy, equipping graduates with the knowledge to transform their careers and communities.
Students will learn from a dedicated team of instructors, as well as from
numerous LA-based chefs who have volunteered to teach or provide internships. At the same time, students help prepare fresh fruits and vegetables for use in the 4,000+ meals served by St. Vincent Meals on Wheels each day. In addition, they will work alongside
volunteers every Saturday, sharing their knowledge and stories with hundreds of L.A. Kitchen supporters just like you.
We'd really like to thank our generous
produce partners who are helping us secure fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as our highly dedicated
social service agencies that have helped us identify this first class of students.
