CarpoolForProduce.com requires a web project coordinator / developer who knows PHP, SQL, geo-location (making correct location appear on map based on location of user), to tweak then launch (migrate from beta) a database-driven site created as a one-stop source of solutions for food waste and the promotion of local foods. Site utilizes Google Maps and will serve the entire United States, although beta testing will cover smaller geographic areas. NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) required.
So what are we?
CarpoolForProduce.com is an online platform with paid subscriptions for local foods sourcing and free collaborative micro-distribution for farmers.
Well, what is that?
We’re aiming to help farmers, for free, to make their own mutually beneficial shipping arrangements, that is, we aim to connect farmers – completely for free - to empty space in passenger vehicles already going the way the produce needs to go, with an interactive map for produce trip-planning that also shows where to donate or compost unsold produce, while we help our paid subscribers – chefs, schools, and stores who want their hands on local foods - request local foods proposals from farmers (and it’s free for farmers to respond). We’d like to complete the project of migrating from our beta site to CarpoolForProduce.com so we can launch nationally anywhere Google Maps touches. Why? Let’s reduce food waste while getting local foods into food deserts and businesses.
Developer requirements
Developer would be expected to assess coding prepared by prior developer on beta site, locate and allow access to the admin backend and forms previously created (including portal to upload Excel data for listings such as food banks and recycling centers), add geo-location / how to code geographically targeted ads (all non-Google, ads supplied only by customers/members), provide support / make changes to prepare for beta testing, migrate the coding from the beta site to the actual site and ensure it works at its new address. If, upon assessment, developer feels that the coding should be overhauled or begun from scratch, this may be allowed, within reason.
The site will serve two separate kinds of users, both of whom will use the interactive map but will need separate user experiences for posting listings, etc.:
- those who use it for collaborative micro-distribution (farmers and end consumers for produce carpooling, for example, connecting produce with empty space in passenger vehicles already going the way the produce needs to go, with “layover” stops as needed),
and
- those who use it to source local foods (“B2B” or business-use, for example chefs, schools, and stores who will post Requests For Produce, receive bids, and communicate with farmers)
The collaborative micro-distribution service is free and does NOT constitute e-commerce (NO produce will be sold on the site, NO money will be exchanged on the site for distribution, etc.). The produce-sourcing portion of the site is offered to businesses for an annual subscription fee that allows them to post unlimited Requests for Produce (again, NO produce is sold via this site; businesses seek produce from those who grow it so that they can make their own mutually beneficial arrangements). Owner originally arranged for subscription management to be powered byLocalHarvest.org’s CSAware, but is open to suggestions for how to collect the annual subscription fee.
A developer who works during United States business hours is ideal but not required. Project is expected to take between 2 to 6 months. Budget is negotiable; because this project has grass-roots beginnings, founder will seek grant funding to cover the cost of this project, so time is of the essence in receiving proposals that include cost estimates.
