Saudi- Hail restaurant shut after a case of food poisoning


(MENAFN - Arab News) JEDDAH: A committee consisting of representatives from the Hail governorate municipality health department and the Saudi Food and Drugs Administration (SFDA) has ordered the closure of a restaurant in the city's industrial area. 
Twelve people suffered poisoning from bacterial Salmonella after consuming food at the restaurant. The owner of the restaurant was fined SR12000. The municipality also fined the owner SR19900 for various other violations. The total fine was SR31900. 
Saad Al-Thuwain of the Hail municipality said that the decision to close the restaurant was taken in view of the directive from Abdul Lateef Al-Asheikh minister of municipal and rural affairs because of the poisoning of people. Investigations showed that the poisoning was due to the transfer of Salmonella from some of the workers at the restaurant. 
Al-Thuwaini said the punitive measure was taken as part of health inspection drive carried out by the municipality. 
A number of other restaurants were also found guilty of violations. The violations included a low level of cleanliness in the restaurant kitchens presence of expired food items which were served to the customers and the presence of spoiled food where all signs were present of its condition open sewage slots inside the cooking area which led to pollution and food poisoning. 
On these grounds fines were imposed according to the law. 
Al-Thuwaini said that Ibrahim bin Said Abu Ras secretary of Hail has been carrying out health inspection of meat fish and vegetables in the markets. Bakeries buffets sweet and juice shops are included in the interest of public health.
