New training programme for food inspectors from tomorrow

DOHA: A new phase of training will begin for food inspectors at different municipalities tomorrow.

The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning will hold the training programme with several modules, including fundamentals of food inspection, to enhance skills and ability of inspectors.

Every training module includes a theory session and a practical session and comprises legal background of inspection, how to identify violations, how to take samples, and how to communicate with the laboratory.

The training programme will also teach inspectors on how to analyse a violation.

The technical aspects of the programme will include public health principles, conditions for restaurants and eateries and reasons which spoil food.

The practical sessions of the programme include like food safety, inspection on dangerous materials which spoil food, monitoring food quality and modern ways of examination during inspection.

The modules for the program for inspectors are designed by a special team at the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning.

Thanks Sreejith. I believe these trained Food inspectors should take initiative to train the local Food handlers rather than doing surprise Inspections, especially the eateries where there is no hygiene officers. Inspections are important in the places where the food handlers are aware of it, this prevents malpractices (ONLY for the sake of inspections) and a sincere approach out of inspection fear.

Dear Tina,

Fully agree with you and I think there should be a strict local requirement saying that all food handlers should be trained in Basic Food Hygiene and the inspections are risk based. By the way the current inspections from SCH are quite good.
