Dear Group Members,

For those of you who have not been fortunate enough to see the all new CIEH Person in Charge (PIC) Handbook, I have attached the cover and contents pages so you can have a glimpse of it.

It has 150 pages of information on food safety and is focused on the CATCHES principles on which the PIC program is based. The contents have been very carefully put together to ensure that it has a 'local flavour' and covers all the requirements and responsibilities of the PIC.

Here are a few quotes from food safety professionals who have attended our PIC Train the Trainer programs and have experienced the CIEH approach to and food safety

"We trust the CIEH as it is a worldwide reputed institute."

"The new CIEH PIC Handbook is very good.......it clearly details the duties and responsibilities of the Person in Charge."

"CIEH qualifications are well recognised worldwide and the training materials are professional and of a high quality."

If your curious to find out who stated the above go onto our PIC website www.cieh.org/PIC and find out.

If you require a high quality PIC Handbook which has been professionally put together by food safety experts, then you need to use the CIEH - PIC Handbook
to enhance the learning experience of your trainees

Kind regards,

Abdul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your note. Extensive feedback from our Training Centres and experienced trainers highlighted the importance of Interactive discussions, the availability of professionally prepared, bespoke Activity and Information Sheets, together with Group Exercises as being the key to a successful and enlightening training session, for the participants. The Handbook serves to support this training process by providing more detailed information on the key CATCHES principles, on which the PIC program is based.

We did not want to use the approach whereby a book developed for the generic Food Safety Level 1/2 programs is adapted to serve as a PIC Handbook. Our PIC Handbook has gone through the scrutiny of Dubai Municipality Food Control Department and has incorporated suggestions made by them.

To date, we have had a tremendous response to our PIC Handbook, as demonstrated by the fact that we had orders for over a 100 copies in less than two weeks. To the extent that training centres who are still in the process of registering to deliver CIEH qualifications are amongst those who want to have copies. This in itself has proven that the CIEH Person In Charge Handbook, has been welcomed by food safety trainers.

We will in due course be translating all our training materials including the PIC Handbook into the most common languages, in order to continually support the intiatives of the Food Control Department and improve food safety standards in Dubai.

On a wider note you will no doubt be aware that the CIEH is a registered charity in the UK and a 'not for profit organisation'. We re-invest all our revenues back into programs that involve improving food safety standards in Dubai, as well as providing funding for the underpriveliged around the world . To ensure that they have the basic necessities that we take for granted, such as a water supply that is fit for human consumption. In conjunction with the WHO and UNESCO we support programs that improve public health of people as well as food safety, on a global level.

Warm regards,

Abdul

Dear Abdul,

Do you not think that 150 pages for a level 2 qualification is a bit too much for a candidate to read. We also have the issue of English being the second language for a lot of PICs, this is more common at level 2. Are you intending to translate the book to facilitate these PICs. With the interest of food safety in Dubai, Highfield has now translated food safety books and examinations into Malayalam, Hindi, Arabic and Urdu to assist the PICs carryout their role.

Kind regards

Paul
