Additionally to discussion about the blue plasters- both GFSI recognized standards 1)BRC Global Standard for Packaging and 2) BRC Global standard for Food requires:
" all cuts and grazes on exposed skin shall be covered by appropriately colored plaster, different from the product color ( preferably blue) , and containing a metal detectable strip. These shall be company issued and monitored. Where appropriate, in addition to the plaster, a glove shall be worn".

Kind regards

Joanne,

If I may state that so called "blue plasters/band-aid" is not just the color... I would like to highlight it does have a metal strip that can be identified by a metal detector or an x-ray machine...

Kind regards,
Nigel

Hi May,

If by bandage you mean plaster, from a food safety perspective you can still
use other coloured plasters as long as they are easily visible. Blue is not
a food safety rule its just best practice as it shows clearly. (Unless you
are preparing blueberries!)

The main thing is not actually the blue colour - years ago in the UK you
could buy very good quality blue waterproof plasters - and because not many
foods are blue, this became the 'best practice'.

Somehow, the blue part stuck in peoples minds, but not the fact that its the
quality of the plaster that is most important. Problems arise when people
buy blue plasters of a poor quality, and think these are somehow safer thank
purple or pink or rainbow coloured plasters of the same type, just because
of the colour!

Best wishes,

Joanne
