Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition at Michigan State University is recruiting an Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in Microbial Food Safety.  The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong, externally-funded research program on  research topics related to the application of molecular, genomic, proteomic, metabolomic and bioinformatic approaches to increase the understanding of food safety issues relevant to food production and processing, or public health; biology, ecology, and/or surveillance of food-borne pathogens; impact of probiotics on human chronic diseases; development and/or implementation of physical, chemical or biological methods to mitigate microbial risk; and microbiomes in food and agricultural systems.  

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level food microbiology lecture and/or laboratory courses, as well as a course in the candidate’s area of study/interest.  Contribution to other courses as needed is expected, as is training graduate students in thesis research projects. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in microbiology, food science or a closely related field, with experience in food microbiology and safety, and a strong record of publication. Postdoctoral or industrial experience is highly desirable. The ability to work professionally with faculty, staff, and students from diverse populations required.
