Our speaker for this year is Atina Diffley, an organic farmer-educator, activist, and author of the 2013 Minnesota Book Award winner, Turn Here Sweet Corn: Organic Farming Works, a memoir based on Atina’s life running the Gardens of Eagan organic vegetable farm. Her advocacy has addressed the pressures of suburban development. She successfully led a legal and citizen campaign against the notorious polluters, Koch Industries, to create an Organic Mitigation Plan for organic farms in Minnesota. Atina will speak about her experience running a large-scale organic farm that sold produce to grocery stores and cooperatives in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. Atina is a popular speaker and editor of the book Wholesale Success: A Farmer’s Guide to Food Safety, Selling, Postharvest Handling, and Packing Produce. She travels across the country speaking about wholesale marketing to a wide variety of audiences. Her experience and knowledge can help guide and stimulate our own local food movement here in central Illinois. To learn more, see her website http://atinadiffley.com.
